This is part of the ruins the criminals and looters left our nation in after 16 years of looting and raping!

Good and positive changes is what we are all after @.
A good and better Nigeria we believe in,
And that is what we shall get.

No more business as usual.
Nigeria must be great again in our lifetime.

God bless Nigeria.

From d excerpt u quoted:

"She, however, assured Nigerians thatthe Federal Government, through the ministry, would soon unveil plans thatwould bring positive changes".

It clearly shows that it is still business as usual if not worse. This is because we have always known that our ports are d most expensive, hence Nigerian importers were forced to patronise Cotonou. Instead of being proactive by making our ports competitive, buhari shut d borders. D reason being that as d minister said, there is still no plan on how they intend to "bring positive changes". If after 5years, d govt is saying "we would soon...", it clearly shows that they have nothing to offer. Same old story

Okoroawusa:

And we are also always willing to pay without complain or protest

Why will receiving cost in Nigeria not be high?

1) Receivers have no platform, that I know, for negotiating ocean freight tarrif / terminal handling charges. Their suppliers abroad obtain freight rates and pad it and it is incorporated into the letter of credit. Imported can deny it for all I care. They are culprits in capital flight.

2) The significant traffic coming into this country is enough to justify lower freight rates than neighbouring countries but is this the case? No.

3) Higher traffic should and must reduce handling charges in the terminals. Is this the case? No

4) Capital development by way of hard quays and evacuation infrastructure belong to NPA, so no terminal operator has invested in that. Terminal investors colluded and "hijacked" government property with fat cats. Even the handling equipment we're and still are "tokunbo", meaning that capital input was low anyway. Is that reflected in the tarrif? No

4) The indices/ projections used in building Tin Can Island are 40 years old... Cement Armada generation !!!.Since then, cargo configuration has changed, bulk cargo is moving in containers, unitization on pallets coming in as rolling stock, vessel size, payload and frequency has increased, and so have the volumes but has the evacuation infrastructure by way of berths and stacking area or port entry/ exit on to the two Lane traffic of 40 years ago changed? No

5) Documentation and processing had changed but has the mindset changed? No

6) Is Nigerian Customs operating the now generally accepted " single window" processing system? No. Are their examination scanners working ? No. Is there any conscious effort to make them work? No. Tariff and arbitration to reduce delays... Punitive to ensure graft. If you don't give them money you pay dearly for the effrontery

7) International container leasing rate as far as I can remember is about Usd1.5 per 20foot container, not up to N1000 per day. Why are shipping companies charging demurrage beginning from N6,000 per day, and the regulatory guys... Shippers Council and Nimasa are watching? Is that what happens along the West African cost? No

A8) The terminals and Shipping companies are virtual monopolies, one owning the other or a part thereof. They scam on the ship and scam on the terminal.

9) Major importers are monopolies in their market segments and collaborators in capital flight anyway, so they could not be bothered. They pad their invoices for dollars on their letters credit, collude with customs to pay less duty and incorporate higher receiving costs on their shelf price. I dare the chamber of commerce to refute.

10) Our regulatory institutions cannot say they do not have international linkages with similar organisations in other countries that have controlled receiving costs for the good of their countries.

I tire joor.

PS. Too long to read. This is a primer for the ordinary citizen to know why we are in this mess.

Ministry of Transport and Nigerian Port Authority has two of my most favourite politicians and crush

Gbemisola Saraki is drop dead gorgeous , Mrs Hadiza Bala of NPA is so beatiful

Anyways back to the topic, The increase in cost of shipping to Lagos Port is due to higher cost of insurance, because the route is a very dangerous one.. again foreign contries Generally milk Nigerians because they know we are rich, Dubai to ghana cost lesser to Dubai to Lagos direct flight yet Ghana to Dubai covers more distance than Lagos to dubai, even DSTV subscribtion in Nigeria if converted to dollars, remains the highest

true talk, custom duty for vehicle is 60% of cost of vehicle, where is that done in the world.

no wonder 25 year old vehicles are sold for over 1 million naira, these are vehicles that have been junked in their countries of origin, I pity the importers.
