SALE OF PETROL AND DIESEL TO BE BANNED FIVE YEARS EARLIER, AS BORIS JOHNSON REVEALS CLIMATE CHANGE DRIVE
UK Telegraph newspaper
By Danielle Sheridan, 2 February 2020

It is believed the Prime Minister will speed up plans to ban petrol and diesel cars

The sale of petrol and diesel cars will be banned five years earlier than planned, under a climate change drive to be unveiled by Boris Johnson.

The Government announced in 2017 that it would impose a ban on diesel and petrol cars from 2040 as part of an effort to tackle air pollution.

However the Prime Minister is said to be speeding up the plans with a view to implementing the ban by 2035.

The idea was first mooted by Grant Shapps, the Transport Secretary, in October last year, when he indicated that 2035 was a target he would like to aim for.
“The government’s own advisory committee on climate change said 2035 is a date for which we should aim,” he told the Conservative Party conference.

“We need to test these arguments and work in partnership with industry to examine how to proceed.”

A joint committee report in 2018 criticised the 2040 target as lacking “sufficient ambition” and urged for it to be brought forward.

The Commons' Environment Food and Rural Affairs, Environmental Audit, Health and Social Care, and Transport Committees warned that “there is insufficient urgency in current policies to accelerate vehicle fleet renewal”.

"Whilst we welcome the Government's commitment to end the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2040, this target lacks sufficient ambition,” they said. "It is too distant to produce a step-change in industry and local government planning, and falls far behind similar commitments from other countries."
Mr Johnson has made his commitment to the environment clear, having last year promised a “clean energy revolution” that he said would be achieved by using “the power of science, innovation and technology” as a means to tackle climate change.
Air pollution causes an estimated 40,000 premature deaths a year in the UK and is linked to health problems from childhood illnesses to heart disease.
Meanwhile concerns over nitrogen dioxide emissions have grown since Volkswagen was found in September 2015 to have cheated air pollution tests for 11 million diesel vehicles worldwide.

Only recently George Freeman, a transport minister, said he had been “cheered” by Volkswagen’s announcement that it would raise its electric car production forecast for 2025.

“We have momentum, we have know-how, we have industry commitment. Many people haven’t made the shift from electric motoring being a nice idea, a vision, to being a practical reality that we are going to do,” he said.

On Tuesday Mr Johnson will set out his Government’s environmental ambitions ahead of COP26, the UN Climate Change Conference which the UK is hosting in November, although it is unclear whether Mr Johnson will make the announcement to end use of petrol and diesel as part of this framework.

It comes after COP26’s president, Claire Perry O’Neill, the former energy minister, was sacked from the role on Friday night over “concerns about her leadership”.
Mr Johnson informed the former Tory MP that she was removed from the post with immediate effect, leaving the position vacant with just 10 months to go until the event in Glasgow.

It is expected that a cabinet minister will to take over the role, although no names have yet been announced.

Don't keep on deceiving yourself. See how at Independence we said oil money will make Nigeria a good country. But has it?

Because of Global Warming UN will put some kind of penalties on countries who destroy the world by effects of global warming which fossil fuels do.

Then ask yourself why YOU would want the world to keep on doing something that is bad for it such as burning fossil fuels? Or is it you have no children so you don't care about their future environment? Or is it you do have children but your love for them is not so deep as to care about the environment they will have?

Let 16 year old Greta Thunberg teach you how to care about the environment. Money is useless if your environment (and thus you) is dying.

My dear, everything that has a beginning must have an end. This world oh, your life oh, your children’s life oh, your generation will all perish one day bro.

What matters is what we do/did with the life we are currently living right now.

Nigeria is the last country to be worried about it’s effect on global warming ... how many industries do we have here in west Africa to compete with Asian, European or American countries. We that import 90% of our daily consumables from those other continents?

If any people will be held accountable for the destruction of the earth via global warming it surely wouldn’t be Africa let alone NIGERIA. For crying out loud we are still developing.

Remember what I said... no matter the love you have for yourself, your family or your world ... everything will still pass/die no matter what you do today or tomorrow.

As I said, petrochemicals will still be relevant in the world especially for developing countries far after you’re dead and decayed.

Don’t think too far ahead like the oyibo, Na dem Dey destroy the world with their global warming ish and not us.

You don't understand global politics. No country from North and South America will jump Mexico, Venezuela USA to come buy oil from us, they will be sanctioned if they do.

Chinese and other Asian countries buy from the Middle East and Russia, it doesn't make economic sense to go to far Africa.

People who patronize us are the countries that majorly colonized Africa. France for instance owns TOTAL. So if these countries decide to go for cleaner energy source and electric cars just like Germany has made up their minds to do in 2035, just know that we are fụ̀cked.

Keep voting in terrible leaders. Nigeria immidiatelly needs one of these three people as president if we are to turn things around within a short time:
1. Ngozi okonjo-iweala
2. Peter obi
3. Akinwunmi Adesina

Well I for one have never voted at the presidency level before. It’s like a waste of time and energy for every citizen in this zoo. Even if we vote in the three people you mentioned as president, vp and cbn president the zoo will never move forward because of its differences which can never be resolved.

The writing on the wall is clear, this country will implode soon. Forget about oil and economics for now because it’s going to be irrelevant come the next 10 years when all other major economies have moved far away from us to even try and catch up.

If we should check it very well now YOU were among those who rooted for this government. Let’s take whatever is coming to us in good faith abeg. We can’t come and go and kill owaself jor
