Show us your mercy, O LORD, and grant unto us your salvation (Psalm 85:7). Mercy is an attitude of compassion, love, and care towards the underprivileged, destitute, afflicted and helpless.

It is unmerited favor, grounded in God’s very nature that begins from the divine attributes of God. Mercy is a unique and personal privilege of the Almighty God Himself to mankind.

This mercy is highly needed by every living thing on the face of the earth. Mostly needed when one goes contrary to the word of God. In other to avoid His wrath you need His mercy.

When the challenges, and hurdles of this life become so heavy on you that you don’t know what to do. When you face the harsh, severe, and rigorous state of life, you really need the mercy of God to survive.

Isaiah 43:27-28, 2 Chronicles 36:15-21. Reveals God’s anger towards His people due to their disobedience. God always uses Babylon as His agent of judgement against Israel for their sins of idolatry and rebellion against Him.

The people of Isreal allowed sin to overtake them which made God allow the king of Babylon defeat and take them into captivity, and their city Jerusalem was also destroyed.

After many years of suffering and crying unto God for mercy. The Lord came down and fulfilled His good promises to them. After Cyrus, the king of Persia fought and defeated Babylon.

As prophesied in the Scriptures, Jeremiah 25:1-11, 29:1-10, Daniel 9:1-2. King Cyrus sent the Jews back to Jerusalem and begin rebuilding the city and temple, Ezra 1:1-10.

The return under the direction of Ezra led to a revival among the Jewish people and the rebuilding of the temple. They called to remembrance past experiences of God’s goodness and mercy.

How God preserved and rescued them out of the hands of their enemies and restored them to their liberty. If He had not continued to be favorable to them, they would have been ruined.

The bringing back of their captivity, which was accompanied by the pardon of their iniquity through the mercy of God, was an example of God’s favor to them.

Sometimes life can be so bitter, harsh and painful. Life can turn from what you wanted it to be to another thing. Life sometimes can cause you tears and you feel like hanging yourself.

Is that your own situation now?. Are you on the bitter side of life now? Have the situations of this life reduced you to trash or relegated you to the side of the road that you watch even as others pass by?

Have you concluded and said to yourself you can never get up to your feet anymore? Remember the blind Bartimaeus was once in that state, not only that he was poor he was also blind.

Mark 10:46-48, And they came to Jericho; and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people followed Him. A blind man called Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging.

Here is a blind man that no physician has been able to make receive his sight. Till today, there are many people like that. His situation to many people was hopeless and impossible.

The challenges and predicaments of this life pushed him to beg along the Jericho road. So while others excitedly rushed to Jerusalem to celebrate the coming of Jesus. Bartimaeus was in a place begging.

When we think of the difficulties and miseries of this world, blindness would be considered to be the peak. Bartimaeus heard the story that Jesus was coming by and the Bible says he cried out.

He had never witnessed any of the miracles Jesus performed. Neither had he seen any because he was blind, but he had only heard of them. And he responded to what he had heard with faith.

A day came when he had that Jesus the son of David was passing by. He grabbed that opportunity and all of his dreams come true. What is that situation that you think can not be restored?

The blind man had a desire to be free from blindness. And he cried to Jesus with that desire. Having faith that Jesus was both willing and able to fulfill his heart desire.

In spite of all the shame, condemnation and humiliation attached to his life as a blind beggar. Bartimaeus was very persistent and determined not to be silenced by anyone this time.

They ask him to keep quiet, to them he was disturbing them with his noise making. They expected him to be happy and comfortable in his situation since he was being given alms by the passer-by.

But the more the crowd shouted for him to keep quiet, the louder he shouted Jesus son of David have mercy on me. He continued crying in a loud voice, Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!

He believed in Jesus, that with him he will be made whole. His life, destiny, hopes, and dreams depended on that cry. His courage and determination attracted the attention of Jesus.

In verses 49 And Jesus stood still and required him to be called. And they called the blind man, saying unto him, be of good comfort, rise, He is calling you.

The Bible recorded that Jesus stood still. Meaning, He stopped whatever he was doing and attended to Bartimeaus’ need. And Jesus said to him, what do you want me to do for you?

The blind man was specific in his request Lord, I want to receive my sight. And He said to him, go your faith has healed you. And instantly blind Bartimaeus regained his sight (verse 52).

What is the situation that you are going through now and no one has been able to help? What have you lost that you want to restore? Are there situations that seem irreversible in your life?

Are you under the captivity of the enemy like the people of Isreal? Or you are blind physically like Bartimaeus? Is your own spiritual, financial, or mental blindness?

Are you a single lady who desires to get married and no suitor is forthcoming. Are you seeking for jobs or your business instead of growing is running into debts?

Is it a life of immorality and you don’t know how to come out of it? The Israelites will always go to God, crying for mercy whenever they discover that God was angry with them.

Some so-called Christians today, with little challenge, easily forget the testimonies of God’s favor upon their lives. They run from pillar to post to seek help from even ungodly sources.

They curse God through their behavior and actions when things are not moving well in their life. Repentance and humility are irrelevant to them, while prayer is completely absent in their lives.

They have heard that Jesus rose again and in heaven preparing a place for those who accept Him in faith. But they failed to seize the opportunity and answer to the Gospel message of our Lord Jesus Christ in faith.
