The PCV valve hose (positive crankcase ventilation) directs excess gases from the crankcase to the PCV valve. From there it is added to the intake manifold and used by the engine. If the PCV valve hose breaks, the gas will not be returned to the engine and your vehicle will be less efficient and have increased emissions. There are some symptoms to look out for if you have a broken PCV valve hose.

1.
High fuel consumption

If the PCV valve hose is clogged or leaking, it can result in poor fuel consumption. This is because the negative pressure on the intake side of the cylinder head is unable to indicate the correct amount of fuel to be fed into the engine and can result in a lean engine condition.

2.
Check that the engine light comes on

The Check Engine Light can light up for various reasons. One of them is a defective PCV valve hose. This is because the PCV valve hose works directly with your engine to make sure everything is working properly. Get a Professional mechanic that can diagnose the exact reason why the Check Engine Light lights up, regardless of whether it is the PCV valve hose, the PCV valve or a combination of parts.

3.
Misfire while idling

Another symptom of a broken PCV valve hose is that your vehicle will cause a misfire when idling. This may be due to a vacuum loss due to the hose not working properly due to a leak, being pinched or becoming clogged over time. A misfire sounds like the engine is vibrating. This is a sign that it is not working properly.

4.
Engine noise

When you hear a hissing sound from the engine, it's time to take a look at your vehicle. The PCV valve hose may have a leak that causes the hiss. Leaving it too long can cause dropouts, rough running, and vacuum leaks, and you'll have more extensive repairs on your hands.
