Hello everyone. I have benefited a lot from the stories here on Nairaland and I have decided to make an attempt at telling some too. I will appreciate your honest opinions on my efforts. Thank you.***
Obinna sat still at his desk. He had had his head in both his hands for the past half hour. For a man of his status, his present predicament shouldn't have been much of a problem. The words of the doctor kept bouncing violently around his head. He would never be able to father a child of his own. He had hoped for a different verdict, having subjected himself to the strict fertility boosting routine that had been developed specifically for him by the Indian specialist his friend had referred to him.
At 42, Obinna could be referred to as a successful man. He was married, ran a successful business empire and had a good social standing. He was a man who had become used to getting things go his way. He could literally pay for whatever he wanted in cash or in kind. He had spent a lot trying to get a child. Right then, he decided he was just going to buy one instead and not just any one. He was going to buy his own child. He smiled to himself and reached for his phone and dialed his secretary.
''Lisa, clear out my schedule for the day-''
''Yes Sir.''
''and call Uchenna. Tell him I'll be coming over for dinner tonight-''
''Yes Sir.''
''Also send a bottle of wine to his residence as well as a gift basket.''
''Yes Sir.''
''Don't mess this up. Understand?''
''Yes S-'' He dropped the phone before she finished.***
Uchenna sunk into the armchair, he dropped his suitcase on the adjoining table while loosening his tie. He suddenly felt a pair of hands over his eyes. He smiled.
''Ahn ahn, who is that nau?''
''Guess, daddy.'' Nnanna's little voice bubbled with excitement.
''Ben10?''
''No.''
''Batman?''
''No.''
''Ronaldo?''
''No.'' Nnanna couldn't control his laughter right anymore. He was clearly enjoying himself.
''Ok, please tell me.'' Uchenna pleaded.
''I'm Superman!'' Nnanna yelled before taking his hands of his father's face. Uchenna pulled him up from behind him and pulled him in for a bear hug, much to the little boy's delight. They had always played this game. Everyday Uchenna came home, Nnanna would have become a different superhero and he had to guess which one.
''Where's your mother?''
''She is in the kitchen. Mummy cooked a big turkey today, what are we celebrating?''
''We are having a special guest today.''
''Who is coming?''
''Your uncle Obinna.''
''Uncle Obinna is coming? Yeeeeee...'' Nnanna's excitement almost rubbed off on his father. But he kept himself in check. He didn't dislike his brother but their relationship had been strained after Nnanna's arrival and had not gotten better after that even though they managed to keep up appearances and remain civil to each other.
''Uncle Obinna will bring me bicycle, he will bring me a new ball, he will-''
''Let him come first before you begin to count what he will bring for you.'' His mother interrupted.
Bisi had walked into the sitting room unannounced.
''Good evening dear.'' She greeted her husband, leaning in for a kiss.
''Good evening. Mmm, you smell delicious.'' Uchenna replied, reaching up to caress her face.
''Nnanna, you left me in the kitchen to play with daddy, abi? No turkey for you.''
''No mummy, it's not like that.'' The boy replied, drawing out his response.
''Those onions you were cutting were making me cry, that was why I left.''
''Cry cry baby. Oya, let your dad go in and freshen up.''***
Bisi was putting final touches to dinner. She was very tired and couldn't wait for this dinner affair to be over. It was all a farce for all she cared. When Uchenna had called to inform her about Obinna's visit, she couldn't hide her surprise. It was very unusual. He didn't visit often and only sent cards and gifts during the holidays. He always made excuses of being a busy man which was true but she couldn't really care any less. It took a lot of effort on her part to hide her deep resentment for him whenever he was around. She really wished her husband had nothing to do with Obinna any more. She couldn't understand why he was still working for him after so many years. Uchenna had always reminded her that Obinna remained his brother whenever she brought the issue up. She wondered why he couldn't abandon a brother who had chosen to abandon his only son. She was lost in her recollections when she heard the horn blaring at the gate.
''Speak of the devil...'' She muttered under her breath...

Obinna was acting very much like the perfect guest much to the surprise of Uchenna and his wife. He was usually brusque and to the point whenever he came around. Nnanna was oblivious of this and was clearly enjoying the presence of his dear uncle.
''Uchenna, this food is very delicious o.''
''My wife is over there, you can commend her yourself.'' Uchenna answered without any emotion.
''Iyawo, well done o.k. The food is very-''
''Thank you. Don't talk while eating.'' Bisi interrupted, without even looking up from the dish before her. She was only there out of respect for her husband but she would make sure everyone was put in his place.
''Uncle, that's true oo. Table manners.''
''Don't mind me, my boy. It's just that your mother's food made me forget myself.'' Obinna replied laughing.
Bisi bit down on her tongue to stifle a reply. She hated it when Obinna called her son ''my boy''. She always felt he was mocking her by doing so and he knew it too.
''This year is looking very good for business, isn't it?'' Nnanna chipped in, trying to douse the rising tension. He had become used to Obinna and Bisi trying to score cheap points against each other but he would be having none of it that night.
''Yes, it is. Business is booming at an unprecedented rate this year, that's exactly why I'm here.'' Obinna was grateful for the diversion. His real mission here wouldn't be made easier by stirring up any hornet's nest.
''How do you mean?'' Little Nnanna asked boldly from his seat making Obinna laugh. The boy was just like him, bold and audacious. He liked that.
''Honey, please take Obinna to bed. He has had his dinner already and is starting to act naughty.''
''Sorry daddy, I won't be naughty anymore.'' Nnanna pleaded, getting up from his seat reluctantly.
''Nna, come let's go. You shouldn't interrupt your elders while they are discussing.'' Bisi said pulling him gently away from the table while Obinna pleaded with his brother to excuse the little boy for trying to be a man.
''How do you mean?'' Uchenna asked the question he had intended to -before Nnanna beat him to it- after the boy had been led away.
Obinna sipped a little wine, allowing his brother's curiosity grow before replying him.
''I want you to head the regional branch of our company in the South-west.'' He replied with a straight face, watching Uchenna's reaction.
''I want you to personally supervise the development of the new branches I mean to establish to accommodate the increasing consumer base over there.'' Obinna added. He liked the effect he was having on Uchenna, he decided to go for the kill.
''I have made arrangements already for your relocation and I have already prepared a new accommodation that befits your new status. Your present allowances will be reviewed upwards and you will also be entitled to certain additional allowances once you resume.''
Uchenna couldn't believe his ears. This didn't sound like the Obinna he knew. The offer sounded too good to be true.
''Thank you. I feel honored.''
''Don't say that. You are my brother after all. I know I haven't always compensated you adequately for your efforts but you really deserve this.'' Obinna replied, keeping a plain face. Uchenna was surprised, he was suspicious as well. This wasn't the Obinna he knew. There had to be something behind this gesture.
''Tell me brother. What do you really want?'' Uchenna asked, looking him straight in the eye. Obinna looked in his brother's eye and felt his resolve weaken. Things looked to be going according to his plan but at that moment, he wasn't sure of continuing. His hand trembled as he put the glass of wine to his lips once more before dropping it.
''I want Nnanna. I want my son back.''

''Over my dead body. Obinna, did you hear me? Over my dead body.''Bisi had remained in the lobby listening to the two men discuss. On hearing Obinna's real intention, she rushed into the room.
''Honey. Calm down.'' Uchenna said, approaching her.
''You want me to calm down. Did you hear him?!''
''Bring your voice down. You are shouting.'' Obinna sat still watching the spectacle before him. He had anticipated her reaction.
''Please, try to understand me. I know how much my son means to you but I would never have asked this if I-.'' Obinna said calmly.
''Do not ever refer to my son as yours again.'' Bisi interrupted coldly.
''Uchenna, my brother. I hope you can understand.'' He turned to his brother.
''Yes. I understand.''
''Thank you. I knew-''
''I understand it's time for you to leave.'' Uchenna cut him short.
''Goodnight brother, you have over stayed your welcome this time.''***
Bisi lay in bed beside her husband, sleep had eluded her. Uchenna had reprimanded her for yelling at Obinna after he had left. He had left her there speechless and stormed off to bed. She thought he would at least support her stance. She hoped he wasn't taking his brother's side. She had always taken pride in her husband's moral standards and understood why he had scolded her but she was going to put her foot down to drive her point home. Nobody was going to take her son away from her.
''You are still awake?'' His voice brought her out of her reverie. She pretended not to hear him and moved farther away from him.
''I'm sorry for scolding you earlier. Forgive me. Mmm?'' He pressed on , moving closer to her.
''You are worried about Nnanna. He is my son too and no one will take him away from us. Ok?'' He wrapped his hands around her and placed a kiss on her cheek. Bisi was glad to hear him say this but she acted indifferent and tried to pull away from him. He held her firmly and whispered sweet nothings into her ear. He tried to kiss her lips but she turned further away. He smiled, he decided to take things further. He licked her earlobe and proceeded lower, planting soft kisses down her neck, he continued down her shoulder, pausing to uncover her nighties before licking her nape for a moment and heading down to her belly. She was breathing deeply by now, still pretending indifference. He headed down to her privates, inhaling her musky scent before placing his lips over it. She moaned, unable to keep up the pretense before placing a hand over his head.***

"Don't worry, I will handle that prostitute myself."
Agatha was speaking with her son Obinna over the phone. He had called to inform her of his failed mission and seek her influence.
Agatha had never really liked Bisi. For the much she cared, Bisi was a slut, an opportunist, and a disgrace to every responsible woman. She wondered what Uchenna saw in Bisi in the first place.
Agatha had berated her first son for taking such an approach without informing her, but she could understand that he was desperate. She decided she would handle the matter herself.
"Obinna must be reunited with his son!" She vowed.
Agatha thought about involving her husband, but decided against it. Just like Uchenna, the man was too gentle for her liking.
She decided she would pay Uchenna a visit first.

Bisi sat her desk during recess. She pushed around the food in her plate but couldn't eat any. She couldn't get her mind off Obinna's plan. She knew her husband Uchenna was a kind man but she wondered how long he could resist his brother.
Bisi detested Obinna but Uchenna was everything any woman could want in a man. She knew that she didn't deserve him.
She wondered how two brothers could be so different.
Bisi had met Uchenna in her first year in school. He was about rounding up with his studies then. Their relationship had kicked of awkwardly but they had become inseparable. Bisi had never found a man who saw her in the same light Uchenna did. Uchenna had introduced her to his family, and to Obinna too, who at that time was beginning to do quite well in his business.
Bisi had been carried away by the luxury Obinna offered and started a secret affair with him.
Bisi had felt bad about cheating on a man with his own brother and with Obinna's persuasion and promises, ended her relationship with Uchenna.
Bisi had enjoyed her secret affair with Obinna till she got pregnant for him. Obinna had shown her his true colours then.
