President Muhammadu Buhari tells the African Union that he is concerned about the worsening security condition in Libya - Buhari says the Libyan conflict continues to have devastating impact on neighbouring countries in the Sahel and the Lake Chad regions .

The Nigerian president calls for the African Union to adopt a new approach geared towards resolving the Libyan dispute President Muhammadu Buhari has raised concerns over what he described as the worsening security and humanitarian situation in Libya.

The Nigerian president raised the concern on Saturday, February 8, at the African Union Peace and Security Council summit on situations in Libya and the Sahel in Addis Ababa, The Guardian reports. Buhari who was represented by the minister of foreign affairs, Geoffrey Onyeoma, at the event stated that the Libyan conflict continues to have devastating impact neighbouring countries in the Sahel and the Lake Chad regions despite the effort by the African Union to resolve the dispute.

ECOWAS mobilising own resources to combat terrorism - Buhari He called on the African Union to adopt a new approach in resolving the Libyan dispute. The Nigerian president also condemned external interference in Libya.

Meanwhile, a former chairman of the Federal Character Commission, Ari Gwaska, has condemned the call for the sack of Nigeria's service chief over growing insecurity in various regions of the country especially the north. Speaking after an all-inclusive stakeholders meeting on the state of security in the country, Gwaska who is the national chairman of the Pro-Nigeria Elders Council (PRONECO) said he believes President Muhammadu Buhari is following United States of America's (USA) lead on tenure elongation of the service chiefs to defeat terrorism.
