After corruption.

Corruption is more than just being greedy.

If we remain corrupt nothing will work.

I sent the picture below to my friend and she responded 'AMEN'. I had to remind her that this is not a prophecy but a goal that needs actions to become a reality.

#Poverty will drastically reduce if the following are done.

1. Change our mindset
2. Increase Minimum Wage.
3.Cut down public officers' salaries and allowances.
4. Gain 21st Century skills.
5. Provision of well paying jobs
6. Smart solutions for electricity and Water problem
7. Stop being greedy, selfish and self-centered.
8. Minding one's business

What other ways can we reduce poverty for ourselves and others? Any suggestions?

Cutting our population growth rate by one-third

If we don't do that
All the above will fail

First let me ask
1, Changing your mindset to what?

2, Increasing minimum wage will not solve the solution as price will invariably increase as well, what should be reduced is cost of leaving, or cost of acquiring basic needs.

3, I think its not outright cut down, however pay people according to their real worth or work done.

4, Pass

5, Should be provision of good policy or conducive environment for jobs to thrive, be it paying or self employed

6, Pass

7, Pass

8, We should be our brotherskeeper, if we mind our business, no one will help any body and we will not achieve 7 above.

What other ways can we reduce poverty for ourselves and others? My own little suggestion and addition

We have written this more than once here.....
Hope it can get to the right sources.

HOW NIGERIA CAN PAY MINIMUM WAGE COMFORTABLY..........

1. Abolish SECURITY VOTE in NIGERIA. Nigeria will pay N45,000 minimum wage comfortably.

2. a) Abolish CONSTITUENCY PROJECT FUNDS
b) Reduce number of ADVISERS to SENATE PRES(2), HOUSE SPEAKER(2), GOVs(4), PRESIDENT(5), VP(2)
c) Reduce current ALL Political Office Holders PAY CHEQUES by 51.5%, without exception
d) Do away with special remuneration to POLITICAL ADVISERS & PUBLIC SERVANTS e.g; Purchase of Private Vehicles, Houses, granting Govt paid Vacations, paying for 1st & Business Class Transportations, etc, etc...
e) Abolish payment of OVERSEAS MEDICAL BILLS for Political Office Holders.
f) Eliminate PRIVATE PRACTICE in public workforce
g) Eliminate participation of Public Workforce in Partisan Politics.
h) Institute EMPLOYMENT BY MERIT, and eliminate UNDEREMPLOYMENT.
i) Review and eliminate allocation of Govt paid POLITICAL AIDES & SUPPORT STAFF to Political Office Holders.

With (1) + (2) Nigeria would pay a minimum wage of N65,000 comfortably

3. Move Nigeria MORE to Private Sector Driven Economy
a) Privatise ALL MOST of Federal Govt PARASTATALS & reduce Federal Direct Funded AGENCIES to 68% of the present.
b) Privatise ALL of STATE Govt PARASTATALS & reduce State Direct Funded AGENCIES to 19% of the present.
c) Reduce current DIRECT LABOUR JOB participation by 49%
d) Encourage more Working Hours until Nigeria economic stabilizes
e) Discourage UNIONISM in Public Workforce

With (1) + (2) + (3), Nigeria would pay a minimum wage of N101,500 comfortably.

4) Institute DEATH PENALTY to proven THEFT OF PUBLIC FUNDS no matter how little, and LIFE Jail Sentences for COLLABORATORS.

With (1) + (2) + (3) & (4), Nigeria would pay a minimum wage of N203,500 comfortably.

God bless Nigeria.

Culled from

All dis aimed at increasing minimum wage. In my opinion minimum wage is not really d problem. As a matter of fact 19,800 10 years ago is beta Dan 33,000 now. The government taxes more now and taxes almost everything so if the increase in minimum wage is directly proportional to to increase in cost of living and prizes of items den dia has been no change

Your solutions are too broad and not specific. Some of them are impossible. You need to explain how they can be done and by who and their direct and indirect effect on poverty.

I agree with you except for the increase in minimum wage. If you keep increasing minimum wage don't you think it will lead to inflation? And when this happens the common man who is neither a civil nor public servant suffers more.

No.1 can singlehandedly take care of 99% of the problem while every other solutions (or pseudo-solutions) are just "stronghead attempts" to bury the real poverty.

When mind is properly set, those other solutions will appear as products and by-products. But, any attempt to pursue the 'latter' (like in Nigeria) without checking the 'former' give rise to struggle without direction; the more the wealth, the higher the poverty.

Changing mindset requires no special budget, but people prefer blaming another man (probably a leader); who failed in his promise to bring "other solutions" while their wobbled mind remained arrogant and resistive to considerations.

Well, it's either we change our mindset or we have it changed for us; not fair? but one thing must adjust for the other, it's just a matter of time.

The good news is, a good mindset nourishes its host, so, you'll lose nothing getting rid of all bullsh*ts injected into your head in the course of growing, even if others will not.

Heal your mind, heal your country.

Take down this picture because it contradict fact and reason.

Half of Nigeria population lives in extreme poverty and this trend is likely to continue with no reasonable end in sight...

Sub-sahara Africa is getting poorer.... The gap between the haves and the have not is more wider than ever...

The number one and only reason for poverty in Nigeria is greediness.

If all of the loots since the time of Abacha has been properly invested in the country, we'll be very much fine.

I mean how can one person embezzle billions of naira an amount that could finance some states budget for years. Funnily enough, they see nothing wrong about it.

If we can at least do our best to be our brothers' keeper, starting from the top now, we'll really go a long way.
