1) The University Of Ibadan had NEVER been topped by any Nigerian University in Academic publications prior to 2018

2) In 2018 with only 32 departments Covenant University surpassed the University of Ibadan with 114 departments. While widening the gap in 2019

3) Covenant surge in research activities began in 2012 when the Chancellor, David Oyedepo announced the Vision 10:2022 which is an overall mandate to put Covenant amongst the top 10 Universities in the world. Ever since Covenant has risen from 7000+ rank to top 400 within 8 years.

Latest computation by SciVal, showing the research performances of Nigerian institutions ranked by the Times Higher Education (THE), revealed that Covenant was a soar away leader courtesy of her stunning performance.

When benchmarked against some of the first generation universities in the country - University of Ibadan, University of Nigeria Nsukka, and University of Lagos - Covenant occupied the top spot with an all-time high 1400 publications for 2019, the same year that Nigeria’s premier university, University of Ibadan had 1139 publications.

The outcome showed that there was some measure of progression in the performance of the University of Ibadan between 2002, when Covenant was established, and 2011. But UI’s performance nosedived in the years after 2011 until the decline was arrested. Covenant on the other hand had a slow beginning, but performance improved from 2012 to 2016, when the current Vice-Chancellor, Professor AAA. Atayero, took the reins of Management and inspired geometric increase in the year-on-year number of publications of Covenant.

While the University of Nigeria Nsukka ranked third in the equation, the University of Lagos appeared to have had a topsy-turvy experience and her performance appeared to be heading south once again.

For Covenant, this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes!
