What we call PH today is an ever growing space made up of hundreds of villages.
They all have names from Rumuepirikom to Choba ,from Elelenwo to Woji to Rumuola
Under Eastern Nigeria Eboes flocked to the city and started their usual domineering behaviour attempting to rename towns to suit their tongue and whims. This was so bad that the NCNC imposed a candidate from ABA in the 1965 election.
The Ikwerre reacted by fielding an independent candidate Ikwunga Wonodi. who disgraced the ABA man Elugwaraonu.
The Ikwerre rejected the Ibo people,rejected the Ibo bible which had been forced on them for decades and rejected Biafra.

In Port Harcourt after the war they renamed their towns which the Ibos had named with Igbo names and seized abandoned Ibo property in Port Harcourt

The Original land on which the Sea Port that was later called 'Portharcourt' was built was called Igweocha. It was the farmlands of the Ikwerre people of Diobu. That a city emerged from the creation of this Port and the city took the name of this Port what is being debated. Most Ikwerre people still refer to the city of Portharcourt as Igweocha, the original area from which the city and port began.

When people talk about Ikwerre and Igbo I laugh. What is the difference between an Ikwerre man, an Nsukka man, an Ngwa man or an an Abakiliki man? Nothing except the minor differences in dialect.

They all speak a language that belongs to the Niger-Congo family called Igbo. It doesnt matter if the Ikwerre, Ngwa, Abakiliki man or Nsukka man all decide to have a bible in their dialect, an Ijekebe msn like me from Anambra will read and understand all their bibles because they are all Igbo. The Ngwa people can rise up tomorrow and decide for political reasons that they are not Igbo but they wouldn't be fooling anyone as their ancestral language and surnames are all Igbo. Same goes for the Ikwerre

One Ikwerre called Elechi Amadi will say he is not an Igbo man, another Ikwerre man called Chibuike Amaechi will go on national Tv to say he is Igbo. An Ikwerre man called Uche Okwukwu is the Secretary General of Ohanaeze

So which Ikwerre is Igbo and which is not?
