Talk show veteran Larry King signs off after 25 years Two US presidents appeared on King's final talk show Veteran US broadcaster Larry King has presented the final edition of his long-running CNN talk show after 25 years with the cable news channel.

The 77-year-old fought back tears as he told his audience: "Thank you, and instead of Goodbye, how about So Long?"

President Barack Obama paid tribute to the star in a taped message, in which he said his show had "opened our eyes to the world beyond our living rooms".

Larry King Live has ended after more than 6,000 shows and 50,000 interviews.

Former tabloid editor and talent show judge Piers Morgan will take over his coveted time slot in January.

Thursday's edition saw former president Bill Clinton make his 29th appearance on the show via satellite from Arkansas, while crooner Tony Bennett sang The Best is Yet to Come.

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger appeared to announce he had made 16 December "Larry King Day" in his state as US TV stars Ryan Seacrest and Bill Maher joined King in his New York studio.

"This is not Larry's funeral. He's hopefully going to be in our living rooms for a lot of years to come," said comedian Maher.

"This is the end of a show, not the end of a man."

"You're not going to see me go away, but you're not going to see me on this set any more," King said.

The broadcaster has promised to "still be a part of the CNN family", saying he planned to host special one-off programmes.

The Americans absolutely love the brits. Most especially the british accent. Methinks he'll get on just fine.

Piers Morgan and his American audience would get along like a house on fire.

I'm gonna miss him so bad , he's irreplaceable. The only reason I watch CNN is because of his show. Now what's going to be new name now he's gone.

7 years child watching Larry King     because nobody changes the channel when daddy's in the sitting room. I was a victim too  . I wish he bowed out long before now.

Yea, from my teen years, he was the reason I watch CNN, straight to the point, revealing, non confrontational and always serving breaking news tales.

I just can't imagine watching CNN a whole day without seeing that big mic with polka dots background intro for his LKL. Geez, Brit man Pierce Morgan with his Irish accent has a whole lotta work to do cause LK's image will be looming large over him. Someone asked abt Morgan, he is a top UK journalist too, worked with Daily Mirror and some other media outfit. He is popular for his appearances @ Britain's Got Talent and America's got talent, He won celebrity apprentice too, anyway this thread is for King Larry

Am kinda suprised at your condemnation and question about the legacy of the Nigerian broadcast fraternity, so the Frank Olize's, late Yinka Craig, Late Dele Giwa, Steve Kadiri and the numerous ace broadcasters of old FRCN, NTA of old etc didn't live up to your expectations and are worth nothing?? I may not know the experience you've had that informed such disposition but we have somethings to smile about this nation too.
