•SARS officers were on illegal duty, says Tiamiyu’s father

•DIG, Ogun Gov visit late footballer’s family

The Nigeria Police Force, Ogun State Command, has dismissed a Special Anti-Robbery Squad officer, Olaniyi Ogunsoro, from the Force, following his role in the death of Remo Stars assistant captain Tiamiyu Kazeem, on Saturday.

Kazeem, nicknamed Kaka, was crushed by a hit-and-run driver on the Sagamu-Abeokuta Expressway after he was arrested by the SARS officers and was being taken to their office in Abeokuta.

While a police statement said the footballer jumped out of the vehicle in an attempt to escape and was crushed by an oncoming vehicle, Sanni Abubakar, a friend and teammate of Kazeem, who was also arrested by the SARS officials, said the SARS officials pushed Tiamiyu out of their Toyota Sienna vehicle before he was killed by an oncoming car.

While speaking with our correspondent on Tuesday, Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed that the erring officer had been dismissed from service.

“The SARS officer Olaniyi Ogunsoro has been dismissed from service,” Oyeyemi said.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Criminal Investigation Department, Force Headquarters, Mr  Ogunyonwon Peter, has visited the family residence of the deceased on Tuesday in Sagamu to commiserate with them.

According to Tiamiyu’s father, Fasasi, the DIG promised the family that the Nigeria Police Force will not spare any officer involved in the dastardly act.

Fasasi said, “The DIG, Mr Peter Ogunyonwo, was here today (Tuesday), so was Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State. They were here to commiserate with me and my family over the sad death of my son.

“Governor Dapo told us that the Ogun State Government would ensure that justice was served over this matter and the culprits would have their day in court.”

He added, “The DIG promised us that the police command would ensure that there was no cover-up of any sort in this case.

“In fact, we learnt from him that the SARS officers were actually on illegal duty and they were even away from their area of operation.

This is very nice.

The guy won't collect February salary, let him feed from his fraudulent proceeds.

Come to think of it, NPF is a very useless force.

They released a statement that he jumped out of the car as if they were there.

It's just so unfortunate the young man is gone, but for this stone colder bastardized officer, his travails have just begun.

Dude, you are a backward and unexposed functional illiterate for this slow statement. Because a man braids his hair, has tattoos and wears clothing paying homage to popular culture, rather than the suit or shirt and tie intolerant and unexposed elements like you worship slavishly, he is automatically a yahoo boy? How are you different from these SARS savages who are nothing but unexposed cavemen and brutal killers?

Look, stop coming here forming informed contributor. You are an unexposed, intolerant and prejudiced nuisance for these views you air here. SARs might as well start shooting and arresting Davido, Wizkid, Burna boy, Olamide, Timaya, Zlatan et al on sight then. Some of these young men are just following popular music and lifestyle culture. That does not make it okay for SARs officers to automatically profile them as Yahoo boys to be persecuted unfairly or killed extra-judicially. Idiat.

We should encourage modern and thorough investigation of anyone suspected of a crime and not their summary judgement and lawless punishment based on senseless prejudice against their hairstyle and dressing.

SARs are a disgrace. Armed and security forces are becoming more professional across Africa. They are relying more, as should be the case, on efficient gathering and use of information and modern investigative practices rather than brute force, senseless prejudice and trigger-happy over-zealousness as is the case with Nigeria.

Honestly, this is the fault of the Buhari Government as it is obvious vital reforms and changes, we have many competent leaders capable of delivering, are just not being seen.

You have to ask why this is happening considering that one innocent death, as appears the case here, should be one too many for any responsible and genuinely concerned Government that puts the welfare of Nigerians uppermost. Whereas it is mindless killings of Nigerians everyday with no solution in sight.

Lalasticlala

The Police PRO should also be sacked for lying and inadvertently inciting the public (to protest), recall he initially issued a stupid statement without verification saying that the deceased wanted to escape not the police man pushed him.

The same Oyeyemi exonerated the killer cop without any orderly room trial or asking questions from eyewitness(es). He went ahead to state they were not SARS and regular police on legal duty. A probe should be commissioned to ascertain whom authorised Oyeyemi to release such lies to the public leading to loss of more lives.

Until people are held accountable for whatever statements they make, such will continue to happen.

The protest and subsequent killings of some other people would probably had never happened if the Police PRO Oyeyemi had shown some human feelings, pleading for calm while the issue is properly investigated and erring party(ies) fished out, instead he threw a grenade into a burning fire with his insensitive and demeaning statement.

The Police authorities (and especially all other security agencies) should stop choosing misnomer as PRO who are tactless, and completely inhumane in Public Relationship.

I do hope he and his ilks will get to read this and learn accordingly. Bad eggs denting image of Nigeria and Nigeria Police.

Indeed. He should face a manslaughter charge at the very least. That would send a louder message to his bloodthirsty colleagues than all the empty noise of "no effort will be spared to see justice done" his oga will bamboozle the Nigerian public with.
