There is no Governing Council in tertiary institutions in Oyo State.

The Governing Council of the Tertiary institution has the overall management responsibilities to formulate policies and make decisions that are vital to the existence of the Institution.

It is the supreme governing authority of the school and represents the consent and conscience of the Visitor

Although the Council is the overall policy maker, it is not involved in the execution and day-to-day running of the Institution.

It functions in accordance with the Laws. Complaints from staff and students on any matter whatsoever, and where necessary, are referred to the Council through the Registrar, who is the Secretary of the Council.

The Governing Council functions effectively through committees into which their members are constituted. There are:

Finance and General Purposes Committee
Appointments and Promotions Committee (Senior Staff)
Appointments and Promotions Committee (Junior Staff)
Physical Planning and Development Committee
Academic Planning Committee
Accreditation Committee
However, the Governing Council has the power to constitute Ad-Hoc Committees as deemed necessary from time to time.

Oyo state is the only state in the federation that failed to appoint governing council, except the governing council of Technical University.

NBTE Boss when contacted made us to know that irregularities was observed in some schools visited in Oyo State and some courses may loose their approval.

Oyo State Government may not understand the impact and contributions of the governing council but the schools will be loosing their accredited courses now due to policy that may be running down the space of education in Oyo State.
