I'm not here to state the obvious, so I will be skipping the popular precautions and focus on what is peculiar to us as Nigerians

It is no more a prediction that coronavirus will get to Nigeria, it’s a confirmed case. All thanks to our government's proactive measures to ensure travel ban/ quarantine measures are placed on affected countries.

Some people might say, the virus has not really spread, so no need to be too careful for now, the question is, do you want to take the chances?

Now the fear of everyone is, how do we tackle an enemy that is making developed, technologically advanced countries look like amateurs, with their technological sophistication and advancement in medicine and all?

The statement "we were able to handle Ebola virus, so we can handle this too" is purely a statement to celebrate mediocrity.

Did you know that Ebola couldn't survive in developed countries, simply because they were bigger than Ebola, they were too sophisticated for Ebola to survive (their environment, their people, their way of life, everything).

What I'm saying is that, celebrating our victory over Ebola, is a good one, but it shouldn't get into our head and make us to be carefree because we are in no position to be.

So back to the focus.

Precaution To Survive Corona As A Nigerian

1. Avoid Paper Currency like a plague

Yeah, you read it right!

Reason:
The virus can be spread from one person to another through currency

Did you know it is possible you stay indoor all throughout and still contact the virus? Simply from the currency coming to meet you at home! (as you have to still buy things and collect change

Solution:

Use bank transfers, install bank apps on your phone, force your transactions through bank transfers, even in public markets (but you need to ask the seller first before buying)

And for those that want to show skills, go the cyptocurrency way cool

Our currency is the dirtiest of all the counties that have had the case of the virus so far and our environment is just as dirty as our currency and it can spread the virus faster than we can imagine. The network of how money moves from hand to hand is unbelievably wide and fast

2. Avoid Publicly Open Food Sources, like a disease (Aboki-suya, rostered & boiled corn, Boli, etc)

Yeah, at this point some people will be pained, your favorite food made the list of To-be-avoided

Reason:
These foods are prone to so many people touching and 'speaking over them'

Just look at boiled corn and boli, while it is been cooked on the street (as e dey hot), people will come and choose by romancing it, talk over the open corn, press it to see if it is strong or soft, at the end they will make another selection. So what happened to the one they have touched, guess what! Someone else will pick it, what if that "someone else" is you and the corn has been contaminated? God forbid right? Save yourself the story that touches the heart

3. Avoid church, mosque and other gathering for now. The reason is obvious, I don't need to stress it, pray from your house for now or stream the service live (I'm not trying to be controversial), public buses that carry people tightly like sardines too are high risk (God help us)

4. Avoid touching any public button, door handle, publicly touched surfaces. if you must, then wear a glove, don't forget you cannot touch your face with the same glove.

5. Cook your own food

If you can, it is very important, how are you sure the people cooking the public food in your favorite restaurant are virus-free or will be virus-free? Do you want to take the chances? For me, No

Maybe it is time to refill your cooking gas, food provisions and also to start waking up a bit early or overnight to make your food to take to work for now.

Stay Safe, Stay Alive
