It’s a combination of factors!

The Niger-Delta operates within the Nigerian political-economy, so can’t escape the faulty leadership recruitment process and anywhere-belle-face partisan-politics that has become the hallmark of governance in Nigeria from the 60s to date!

Also, the Niger-Deltan ethnicities and states have become used to the system as explained above, and are now using it towards their own selfish ends: from those seeking elective positions; to their hired thugs; to those in the public and civil service; to the militants in the creeks; to the students; to the jobless hustlers on the streets; and pretty much everyone else! They’re all in it for self aggrandisement and primitive accumulation of wealth via the 13% proceeds of their oyel and gas! They’ve all got their snouts in the through!

They have become accustomed to being cheated so long as they’re ‘benefiting’ from the madness, and they have a serious case of Stockholm-Syndrome!

The Niger-Deltans should share half of the blame for the shi’t they’re in!

Niger Delta people are far from stupid. They are the most brilliant when it comes to streets smarts and have a lot of bright indigenes working in the oil industry, It is just that leadership like in the other geo-political zones has been hijacked by politicians who want to live the billionaire lifestyle of Floyd Mayweather.Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

When did they start receiving the amount, what were they receiving in 1999 to 2007?

Besides, the allocations was not for a city, but spreads across 5 cities.

The allocation the Niger Delta states have received since 1999, should reflect more development. Can you tell me if the British or Dutch handled the same allocations. The Niger Delta states will all lack basic amenities and development.

There is massive demonic corruption at local government and state level in the Niger Delta. I lived in Delta state for 14 years and have travelled around the different states. They are nothing to write home about. No Niger Delta governor can go to any public hospital or send his children to any public school.

Do you know Akpabio passed a law in Akwa Ibom that gives him N100 million annually for medical treatement.

It is a shame no single city in Niger Delta can even compete with the cities of Windhoek or Swakopmund in Namibia.

Stupid question.
Why despite the massive allocation since 1999 Niger Delta states look no different that states in the NW,SW,SE,NE geopolitical zones?
They receive more allocation than Kano, which has 2-3 times their population and are still not more developed than Kano.

And Lagos is still competing for the largest urban slum in the world, with smelly gutters everywhere, transportation system mostly run using buses meant for goods but replaced with benches and operated by street thugs, open defeacation everywhere. Tufiakwa, despite all the OIL money from the Niger Delta, yes the Niger Delta you are insulting and siphoned through FCT status Lagos enjoyed for decades and lopsided monopolistic policies of this hopeless country Nigeria. Shame on you!!!!!
blaming others for your failure will not take you anywhere. Their son was their for six years, ibori was a governor from Niger delta, the money mean for development was syphon by onyeama and up till date his brothers are still defending him.

The simple answer is because the people are too politically sentimental in their judgement.

All of these states have been ruined by one particular party which has held sway for 99% the time

And anyone who gets elected as a flag bearer in this zone From that party can start dancing Uhuru because he would definitely go on to win election and re-election so no need to do anything except embezzle.

Seriaki Dickson is a typical example
and Akwa ibom state too
