In fact, looking at the above statement, one might as well say that without Nigeria, there is nothing like Africa.

Yet some idiots want to split up this country into little, inconsequential Liberias. When you sneeze nobody will notice.

Rubbish.

Nigeria may be the largest economy in Africa, but it means absolute ZERO to the majority of the people. The benefit is largely to western companies, corrupt elite and their cohorts, and a few areas of concentration in the country.

The VAST majority of Nigerians are not enjoying whatever benefits your so called LARGE ECOMONY is producing.
Please don’t make me laugh.

I don't know what your point is but every state in South Africa is beta developed in terms anything or everything development compare to Abuja or Lagos. It's ludicrous comparing any state in SA to our best be it Abuja or Lagos.

Nonetheless this is a positive news not worthy of celebration but a good one. That aside SA beat Nigeria in every other indices of human existence.

wordlord:

South Korea won is worth 0.35 Naira.
Does that mean our economic is better than South Korea?

Can you mention five cities in South Africa that can be compared to Lagos, Kano, Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Abuja just to mention a few?

What is the South Africa economy dependent on?

Do remember that some of the south Africa Companies are heavily stress, Mining, ESKOM, South Africa Airline etc.

We do have our problem and indices. (let start with corruption and heavy disdain for the country achievement) but Nigeria is way ahead of the countries.

Not just big theoretically it should reflect in the day to day lives of the ordinary Nigerians, bringing about the desired positive they crave for otherwise it's equal zero.

Thanks so much, this is the main point.

Large economy means nothing when 70% of people are struggling to make ends meet on a daily basis.

Actually, you are right but also wrong. Yes, Nigeria in 2018 was the largest economy before ceding to SA. SA has now fallen behind. The news article in link below is actually as recent as yesterday !!

Do you know that this is nothing to celebrate here, and infact that this indicts this Govt??

Clue: In 2014, Nigeria became the largest economy in Africa and valued at $509.9bn whilst South Africa was $370.3bn.

Today, Nigerian economy has according to your report in the OP declined to $472/402bn i.e a decline of about $38bn( it would even be more if you take into account inflation rate between then and now).

The only reason SA overtook us was that our growth since then has been very sluggish with us entering into a recession(successive "negative" growth). The reason why you just overtook SA again is that they just entered their 2nd recession within the period.

In real terms, none of the countries grew.

So quit that Buhari worship. On the economy, as with almost everything else, he has failed.

You are a very mischievous person. That was when crude oil price went out of the roof, selling above 100 dollars per barrel. What happened after that when the price of crude oil fell? Recession!
This time around, it's completely different! Oil commands average price, we shut our borders to importation of many food items, improved tax system, TSA, IPPIS, improved IGR collection. These are the factors, not phantom and unreliable crude oil price

Tell us how much a South Korean would be buying same machine in the his local currency

Am so happy you mentioned South Korea economy. I see them as a fine blueprint for us to follow diligently infact to read as a text.

1 dollar to 1187 Won.

Poor currency ratio of course.

However, the economy is export driven. Export driven economy is a great changer. More still, they are very technologically developed. In short they have factories. They can self produce machines. Family businesses and conglomerates such as Hyundai automobile, Samsung and LG, they export electronics, textiles, ships, steels etc

Then most of it's problem is historical,North Korean trouble. Dollar against it has been high from time past.

But their per capital income is high, highly technological society.

For the high dollar, they try to buy from their fellow Asians and self production, their problem is mainly historical, compared to we that the problem shouldn't be at all

So long the cost of living is high and the masses are still finding it hard to put food on their tables and meet the daily necessities of life, this is meaningless. Mind you, we should have surpassed our current GDP and economy many years ago if past leaders had managed the economy and the resources well.

I'm still not impressed until the impact is well felt by the majority/masses.

Look at ignorant fools hiding under this news to celebrate a terrorist government.
For starters, what is there to celebrate in this news?
Is this how low we have sunk as a godforsaken country?

Now let's face facts:
Nigeria is Africa's largest producer of oil and also by far, Africa's most populous country. We should rather be ashamed that S.A had to overtake Nigeria again after we became the largest economy years ago.

To put it graphically, Japan used to be the biggest economy in Asia until China had to use its huge population as well as reforms to overtake Japan, now do you think that Japan would ever dream of overtaking China again in this life??

Oil alone contributes significantly to any country, now Nigeria happens to be the biggest producer in Africa and also by far the most populous, so are we not supposed to be by far the biggest economy in Africa??

Look at the security situation in the country, which is no better than war torn countries. One can't travel any of our highways again without being afraid of fulani herdsmen kidnapping or murdering them. Look at our roads, all in terrible conditions.
Look at how we have become a net borrower when we are supposed to be a net lender.

Look at how we have overtaken India with a population of 1.2 billion against ours at 200 million, as the country with the most destitute population. Even when India has 1billion more people than us!!!

Look at how our farmers are dying daily in their farms at the hands of fulani herdsmen while the government does nothing.

Is it Boko Haram that are killing scores on a daily only for them to be compensated and given VIP treatment when caught; flying them on military jets, organizing feasts for them, giving them grants as well as foriegn education scholarship while law abiding citizens are rotten away, totally neglected!!

God will punish any fool that sings the praises of a terrorist government!!!
