*RISE AND GROWTH OF CULTISM IN KSU 2008 - DATE*

Before the Advent of the third vice Chancellor of KSU, anyone can freely say KSU was 100% cult free and be very correct without demand for evidence. The coming of the third vice Chancellor Prof. ISA and the desire to generate revenue at all cost made him to introduce the diploma program where graduates of the program were assured of automatic direct entry admission to 200 level. Expelled and rusticated cultist from schools like Uniben, Ekpoma, Unilag and other Western universities found the KSU diploma as an easy way to continue or revive their truncated program and also found the once quite university as a great unnoticed rallying fertile ground to rebuild and expand their cultic empire.

Some lecturers (e.g. realname withheld *a.k.a. commissioner OG* of political science department) who also needed a way of getting some little security for themselves and also intimidate and harass colleagues they have already falling out with quickly took advantage of the presence of the admitted cultists, especially as most of them were aided to gain admission into Faculty of Social Sciences and political science department in particular. They empowered them by aiding their hijacking of the leadership of SUG and NAKOSS in KSU. This resulted in a clash in interest between the political dept acclaimed "Commissioner OG" and a lecturer on whose candidate should lead SUG of KSU in 2016 till the lecturer eventually left KSU unceremoniously.

With cult lead SUG in their palms, the commissioner lobbied and was appointed as Dean of students affairs, influence the whole students population, cling to the vice Chancellor thereby positioning himself as the defacto vice Chancellor of KSU, harassed colleagues and students at will, used the students to organise protest in Lokoja against the then new GYB lead Government of Kogi state during the first long ASUU strike.

The fear of the power weird by the political dept commissioner made many of the lecturers including professors and non teaching staff of the university to join or become loyal to Mr Commissioner in other to have a recommendation for one appointment or enjoy a favour from the then newly appointed vice Chancellor. Some present and former directors including an immediate past deputy vice Chancellor academics in the University are examples of some of those who either submitted themselves or joined Dr. Commissioner team in return for the appointment that later enjoyed.

Accommodation reservations were always guaranteed and made for most of the cult leaders and members in all the hostels especially at Dangana Hostel which rapidly earned the notorious status of a cult hostel where students either belong or they relocate to other hostels. This does not include automatic accommodation for SUG EXCO.

The need for the Dr. Commissioner to increase and sustain his defacto VC status and also seek state government appointment (after the governor ordered his removal and replacement as Dean of student affairs) made him to establish closeness to the government and eventually got introduced to the governor. This closeness made it possible for him to make students especially cultist to be freely available for the Political and campaign needs of the Government. At the peak of the political activities he started a group with members drawn from the cultic lecturers and the students. It is also through this group and the security of the University that guns used during the state assembly elections made their way to the hostels even the security unit of KSU under the leadership of the present *chief security coordinator (CSC)s.

This long story of Origin, rise and growth of cultism in KSU is endless but the main surviving root of it is linked to Dr. Commissioner who was always boasting to his students and co lecturers that he will be made provost of COE or commissioner or Rector of KSP after the elections. He was presented to the Governor with a request to truncate tenure and use him to replace the present provost of COE all in a bid to extend his personal cultic agenda to the quite COE Ankpa.

The fact is that cultism is deep in KSU as manifested by the pre-election killing of 13 students last year and the shooting and killings in kSU during last semester exams with viral videos of their show of inhuman barbaric acts. However to say staff and students must sign to renounce cultism is a joke gone too far that can not be well understood or explained especially as the God father surviving the cults and their members is now a very close associate of the Government even seeking Political appointment of the Government. There is an old saying that *he who goes to equity must go with clean hands.* If that saying is true and anything to go by then the Government must ask Dr. Commissioner, who severally appeared on national TV representing APC and the government in political debates to first publicly renounce cultism and his role in the rise and further growth of cultism in KSU before getting every other innocent and cultic staff and students can be asked to follow suit. That way the sincerity of the intention of the seemingly repentant GYB government and order will not be in doubt.
