Zoom for online classes

With the COVID-19 pandemic ramping up its spread, human beings are being forced to stay inside and this has halted the learning of students in schools. But, the self-quarantined students still need to learn and interact. The videos sharing platform Zoom has become the go-to spot for schools. It can be used for virtual education and students will still have a similar learning experience like that of a physical classroom.

Teachers will be able to log in, schedule their classes, and send out invites to students. Students are not required to have a Zoom account and can join classes using the links sent from the teacher or by using the teacher's personal identification code. It allows teachers to organise live online classes on a variety of subjects for ages 3-18.

However, there is a misconception that zoom app consumes a lot of data for transmission but this is not true. Although you need to have a data plan on your mobile devices to start or join a video meeting. When your mobile device is running in 3G or 4G/LTE mode, the zoom app will only send a maximum of 1MB/min of data in accordance with Apple's guideline for bandwidth usage for a data plan. This means that a 40-minute lesson will only consume 40MB.
