Why not borrow to finance the whole budget since borrowing is the order of the day?

Don't just parrot Western concepts without understanding them. How does the government in Nigeria 'sustain' its population? Similar sized countries have developed through their large populations. If Nigeria is underdeveloped due to overpopulation, how do we explain Singapore, Germany, Qatar or even Rwanda which have much higher population densities and are doing well economically?

Read up GDP per capital... Nigeria has a consuming population and it's getting worse with the brain drain by other nations, who increase their GDP/per capital by taking the best brains which would increase their GDP much more than the population.. while that of Nigeria keeps sinking because of the great number of out of school children, poverty rate etc which reduces the GDP per capital alongside the remedy is not soon because the ones to ramp up the industries are becoming skilled immigrants to other nations..

The only way out for Nigeria, is to control its population size because oil that gives us buying power is fast eroding..

That is a very erroneous understanding of GDP and the multifaceted factors that influence it.

That aside, a much better way out for Nigeria is to educate its expanding population size to be more productive, rather than reduce what could be a strength and an opportunity. Also, the government could look into why so many skilled Nigerians are willing to emigrate to other countries to help in their development. In either case, attempting to reduce the population is not a solution, but could actually work to lower productivity even more as the population ages.

Nigeria is overwhelmed already, there is no funds to educate and Petro dollars is not as free flowing as it used to be. The reason people are migrating is because of the same GDP/per capital, buoyant countries can afford to employ and pay a better price.. that is why they use the point base system to sieve out the best brains, leaving Nigeria with a population that cant effect change.

Attempting to reduce population seems the only way out for Nigeria. where and what is the productivity that would be lowered?..

If its productivity cannot cater for 200m people and increase it GDP/per capital, then it ought to cut down its population.

You seem to be confusing yourself with poorly understood concepts. GDP is itself a measure of economic productivity. It has been increasing steadily year on year; both in absolute terms and in per capita terms. Cutting down the population will only harm the economy long term. No country has ever implemented or seriously proposed cutting down on population growth as a successful form of economic development. Even China which tried it as a form of limiting population growth because of resource limitations have seen how disastrous its effects are, and its government is now actually providing incentives so that couples can have more children.

Yes china came up with the one child policy and it worked perfectly for it, it's still on but only relaxed to two children. China has maintained that policy for over 35 years.

Imagine if china didn't have that cap, despite china having a GDP running in trillions, its GDP/per capital is still at $10,000, while that of canada with a a GDP of $1.8tr has a GDP/per capital of $43,000, which goes to show employees would earn more in canada than China despite china having a massive educated population and the manufacturing industry of the world.

Now rate that with Nigeria with only $404bn GDP, $2,000 GDP/per capital and a population of 200m, not a manufacturing country, above 50% uneducated, and a dwindling oil resource.. birth control is the only remedy to salvage Nigeria.

Oga. Your inferences and conclusions are all unsound. The reason why China reversed their one child policy was because of the detrimental effect it was having on the economy. If it was such a good idea, why do you think they are reversing it?

They are reversing it because their economy is now very stable and the crisis of male heirs..

Read the link I provided. They are reversing it because their workforce is fast shrinking and their population is ageing. It seems like you just make confident assertions off the top of your head without an understanding of either the concepts or their relationship.

It's still in effect till today, even if they have that in plan, their workforce is fast shrinking for the level of development they are on, are you aware their robotic technology is rapidly rising aswell.. now what level of development is Nigeria on to warrant such increase in population?

Please go through the link to see the UN support my assertions.. have a great day.

This is what happens, when you base your fiscal source on oil
The oil market is not stable.

From politics of dominantion from russia, Saudi , Iran, Us, to environmental agitations, the oil price will continue to fluctuate and will be at the whimps and caprices of others.

Nigeria ought to have something stable as fiscal source. Something they can control.

So sad,we are in this state.

The future scares me.
And I think that's one of the major rains for diversification which hasn't really worked in the Agricultural sector. Instead, thy Govt thought it wise to close the border...

Instead of perfecting more is the immigration process to gate out terrorists and carefully checking scrutinizing goods imported to block infiltration of ammunition, they have totally blocked thy border to goods and consumables that were not yet producing in abundance resulting in price hikes everywhere.

One would expect that the IT sector, financial sector and the manufacturing sectors are paid more attention by the Govt. SMEs should be encouraged with credit facilities and friendly business environment. Exportation of processed and finished goods should be encouraged. the
