seeking to ban the sale and use of power generating sets referred to as ”generators” in the country has scale through to second reading in the Senate. The bill introduced on Wednesday by Bima Enagi, a lawmaker from Niger south is pushing for a sweeping ban on importation and use of all kinds of generators while proposing a sentence of at least 10 years for anyone caught importing or selling the power sets. This is despite that scores of Nigerians depend on generators for electricity generation in their homes and businesses as a result of erratic power supply. Although the country currently generates approximately 4,000mw of electricity, it distributes about 3,000mw for a population of about 200 million. READ MORE HERE
