The National Youth Service Corps today swore in about 2000 corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Yikpata Camp, Edu L.G.A for 2020 Batch A Stream I orientation exercise.


The Executive Governor of Kwara State, Alh. Abdulrazak Abdulrahman who was represented by the Special Adviser on Investment Alh. Kabir Shagaya officially declared the orientation exercise open and encouraged camp officials including Corps Members to ensure their stay in Yikpata camp is fulfilling and productive.


The Governor also advised the Corps Members to imbibe the spirit of unity and exhibit a profound act of discipline and dedication in the course of orientation.


The Governor who described the state as peaceful also enjoined them to take advantage of the various traditional lectures that would be holding in the camp to learn the way and culture of the people of the State for peaceful coexistence between them and their various host communities.


While inspecting camp facilities, Governor promised to improve on the on going developmental process in the camp and further assured them the readiness of his administration to further the lot of the scheme in the state.


The Governor also commended the new state coordinator of the scheme in the state and described her as a woman who is driven by great zeal for development.


Meanwhile the State Coordinator of NYSC Kwara state, Mrs Francisca Olaleye appreciated the State government for the support she enjoyed within the short period as a state coordinator in the state.


Mrs Olaleye however made a compassionate appeal to the government for the perimeter fencing of the camp, more hostels and restrooms for both Corps Members and the camp officials.
She also appealed to the State government for the payment of stipends to corps members in the public sector, most especial those that are serving in the government schools.


The coordinator disclosed that the scheme has taken a preventive measure on coronavirus, CONVID 19 by provision of sanitizers and special medical personnel on camp .


She, therefore, enjoined corps members to make use of the sanitizer in various strategic points in the camp and report anyone who is suspected to have unusual sneezing habit on camp.


She added that in the course of the orientation exercise , provision has been put in place to sensitize corps members on the CONVID 19 and possible preventive ways to avert it.

It is worthy of note that the oath of allegiance was administered by Justice Hammed Gegele representing His Lordship, the Chief Judge of Kwara state.
