Abubakar Ya'u could not hide his joy as his financial status changed immediately he was declared the first in the fishing competition at the grand finale of the Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival 2020, held in Argungu, Kebbi State on Saturday.

As rewards for his feat for catching the biggest fish " weight 78kg" in Argungu this year, Mallam Ya'u, who hailed from Augie Local Government Area of the state, were given N10 million, two cars and Hajj Seats.



Ya'u came first out of the 50,000 fishermen who paticipated in the competition.

Malam Bala Yahaya-Bagaye came second in the competition for catching a fish that weighed 75 kg, while Malam Maiwake Sani who came third cautch a fish that weighed 70 kg.

The grang achievement of these fishermen attracted cash and product gifts from politicians, government officials, individuals and corporate organizations. Among them were Governors Simon Lalong who gave the first position N3 million; second position N2 million and third position N1 million.

Following the suit of Governor Lalong was the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Shippers Council, Dr Hassan Bello, who gave the first position N1 million, the second position, N750,000 and the third position, N500,000.

Adding to this, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State gave N3m and a Hajj seat to the 1st position, N2m to the second positiona and and N1m to the third positions.

A corporate organisation, West African Cotton Company Limited also donated a new car, N1 million and Hajj seat to Ya'u who came first position the first lady of Kebbi State, Dr Zainab Bagudu donated a brand new car to the first position.

Another corporate organisation and sponsor of the festival , Maltina Nigeria Limited gave a tricycle (Keke Napepe) and motorcycles for the second and third prize winners respectively.
