Coronavirus: Why Buhari is ‘Side-lining’ Osinbajo – Dele Momodu

buhari sidelining osinbajo dele momodu
The Publisher of Ovation Magazine and former presidential candidate, Dele Momodu, has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of “playing political cards” with the Coronavirus pandemic.

Momodu berated the president in his weekly column, “Pendulum” on Saturday. He criticized the president for ‘side-lining’ the Vice president, Yemi Osinbajo over 2023 Politics. He wrote;

“It is unpardonable that Mr Buhari will totally ignore a man as modern, cerebral, diligent and conscientious as his own Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo SAN and instead ask the Secretary to the Federal Government, Mr Boss Mustapha, to handle what is a global crisis.”

“There are only two reasons why Professor Osinbajo is seemingly being side-lined. The first is the politics of 2023 and the second is the unforgivable feeling that he will upstage the President by once again delivering a stellar performance in governance.”

“Nobody knows what will happen in 2023, and I really don’t care for now, but we are all concerned about what is presently happening around us. As for upstaging the President, had this not been so tragic it would have been just plain laughable.”

Momodu adds that unless the president understands the importance of ‘team-work’, no significant progress will be made for the country.

He pointed out that all the ministers and governors should have been put under the control of the VP. It will be recalled that shortly after winning the 2019 general elections, President Buhari ordered his ministers to direct all their queries and needs to his Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari instead of VP Osinbajo.

“All the relevant Ministers and State Governors should have been assembled under the central command of our Vice President. It is not remarkable to us that the only ray of hope shone when the National Economic Council headed by the VP met yesterday and immediately charted a course that the Presidential Task Force had found practically impossible.”

“I believe that this is a situation where all hands must be on deck. Even members of the opposition should be invited to offer their own advice, logistics and support like we saw in South Africa. Nigeria is not owned by APC and there is no reason to claim a monopoly of wisdom.”

He urged the President to quickly handover the COVID-19 taskforce to VP Osinbajo.

“The time to act and pass the mantle on to an astute visionary leader and commanding presence is now. Let the Vice President take the helm as Deputy Chairman, with the President as the National Chairman of the reconstituted task force on this damaging and debilitating COVID-19.”

“The Government must not fail, because that will mean all of us have failed”, he concluded.

Some people are cursed!

In times like this, it's saddening people still choose to politicize issues.

The administration is making tremendous efforts and that's all that matters for now. The fronts each play individually is inconsequential and top most priority is "Containment" which is happening.

What is the government doing about coronavirus. Let’s just pray for our country don’t beat chest. We need to come together and pray for Nigeria. It’s a bit too late it’s already here 22 cases confirmed as at today it’s only a matter of time

I totally agree with Dele Momodu. This is actually not the time to politicize issues and get someone with high intellect on the driving seat to stop the coronavirus. Something Osinbanjo clearly offers.

We are talking about people's lives here. Tremendous effort is not enough. We need the best efforts we can offer.

Hello, This is not a time to be selective on who and who is piloting. Getting result is the ultimate and that we are getting.

Politicising or creating division is not what is needed now. The administration is doing fantastically well as of date and Dele's gibberish is now required in times like this.

At the end, it will be the success of the administration. And not that of Buhari, Osinbanjo or any Governor.

Getting the right brains is paramount. Not thinking of creating division. We need the best hands piloting affairs when it concerns the war against the invisible enemy, Covid-19.

Dele Momodu points make sense and should get adopted. Osinbanjo should be given to head the task force of the Covid-19 response team.

Mike Pence, Vice President of America is the one handling the task for America.

The fact is that Mike Pence is doing a fantastic job. He came up with the public private partnership to fight the virus.

He got top malls to turn their parking spaces to testing centres.

He convinced the private sector to donate in different manner to the process. For example cheap to free testing kits supplied.

He was able to get the fast tracking of approvals for treatment.

Mike Pence has been nothing short of amazing.

Giving Osinbanjo that position is the right thing. Buhari can not use this to play and continue his ethnic empowerment programme when it concerns people's lives.

cheesy

Fantastic what!

Approval for what treatment?

Do you know is unpreparedness of the administration that warranted the partnership.

Okay... Let me believe pence did all that. What's the count in the US as at tonight.

New Jersey hit.

Count increasing.

Doctor's lack gears

No test kit for all.

Please don't tell me pence is doing a fantastic job. It's annoying.

What kind of results are we getting when PMB is slow to act and most of the times, is indecisive?

Have you forgotten so soon when the information Minister declared that Nigeria was capable of handling the covid-19 case? What measures were put in place? Nothing, absolutely nothing.

Just on Friday, 20/03, the number of covid-19 cases in Nigeria stood at 12 cases. On Saturday, 21/03, we had 10 new cases. What equipment and human resources do we have at the airports to check the growing influx of covid-19 cases? How many quarantine centers do we have in the country?

Your Baba Go Slow, PMB needs to step back and allow intelligent minds to take charge of these pandemic.

Prof. Osinbajo proved his onions the other time he was allowed to manage the economy. Even PMB was forced to give him the credit.

No one is politicising the situation but the truth must be told. Dele Mamodu did just that.

I have stated Pence is doing a good job. He is.

He is not waving a magic wand but doing a good job to keep the counts low. Which country has test kits for all? Pence got put in after the gaps were noted, which you are stating above. Not before and the response has improved rapidly.

You are yet to tell me why Osinbanjo should not take over the role with immediate effect.

And the casualty and death in a US is over X30 of that.

So are we not making progress?

You can't take away the Kudos from the administration of Buhari. That can never happen. They must be complimened.

To keep which counts low?

Hello, New counts just started in New Jersey.

Doctor's wrote a letter today they lack gears, and respiratory kits. People are complaining about lack of test kit.

DOW has crashed!

And you saying fantastic? A country that glaringly saw it coming.

No, that was poor preparation.

Who leads or not is not my concern as at now. It's a pandemic please. Result is whats needed.

Mike Pence is doing a great job. Having further gaps does not take away the positives.

In our case, very limited actions till now. You are quick to criticise gaps after wonderful work is going on but mute to the total incompetence of the handling of the coronavirus in Nigeria.

Public gatherings have been banned.

The count in last one month is outstanding which indicates spread has been contained.

Boarders shut.

Trial test ongoing

0 death as of date

What crap did you write up there? You were talking of lack of test kits and working gears for doctors. You are here talking public gathering? You were talking of active preparation and now praising zero death as if that has to do with Buhari?

We need to talk of massive importation of testing kits. Preparation of hospitals with supply to deal with an outbreak. We need to talk about improving social distancing, we need to actively engage researchers for trial treatments. There is so much to do that we need an intellect on board. Not the joke you are writing here.

You can see how quick you can criticise an amazing work of Mike Pence but quick to praise Buhari's incompetence.

We need a full intervention fund to deal with the crisis. We need to keep people home, engage the services of logistic companies to deliver supplies to homes. We need relief funds for emergency supplies to hospitals.

We need people with brain thinking to curb a possible outbreak.

I listed what's playing in Nigeria.

Statistics gives a clearer picture. If Nigeria has less than 50 cases with 0 death in a month, then that's a job well done.

Myself and you don't know what preparations have been made but with the status quo at date, I must commend the administration. I don't know about tomorrow.

The tides are high and everybody knows what has come. So judging about what we have not faces is fiction to me.

We must still give kudos and criticise constructively. We can't start assembling camps when we have less than 50 cases. Let's hope we don't get there.

But certain preparations would have been made, but the quality and quantities, I can't vouch for.

We hope not to get there but if we do, then we can judge them by their plans.

For now, we must give kudos to them. They tried. Even the great medical teams and fascility of UK could not beat our record.

You do not know preparations done because that is the fact. No preparation. The government can not properly engage the media to share information.

That will give you an idea. When the Chinese started setting up hospitals we knew. Have they published a list of Quarantine centres? Is the a full list of possible testing centres? Have they started importing preventive kits?

You do not know and you are blasting people you know that are making large efforts.

We have been fortunate, not because of our management of Affairs. No need deceiving yourself. That is why you were blasting Dele Momodu after he made a valid point. Because you have chosen to blind yourself to the truth.

Look at the way Infected people walked into Nigeria in high numbers in few days. Does that in any way show active preparation.

Numbers are down because of fortune, not because of competence. Buhari should get his ethnic and tribal brain our of his bum bum and get Osinbanjo manning Affairs. This is not business as usual time.

Which kind of madness is this? Self-quarantine?

We should have a Quarantine centre for all those coming in from China, and treat them as if they are infected through hydration until after 14days.

The ministry of health should not allow people take matters into their hands when it concerns this.

Now you relating it to fortune

It's hardwork. Afortune could have saved the US, UK, Italy and Iran.

How did you conclude that preparations are not going on. Garba Shehu or what do they call him already said the FGN is making adequate preparations.

Like I stated earlier, I don't know about tomorrow. But as at this minute, the FGN needs to be commended.

More needs to be done, I agree. And should take involvement of all stakeholders- public and private.

My concern is that who leads should not be Paramount at the moment. It's getting result that's most Paramount now.

Politicizing issue in times like this is not healthy. No two way about it. It a system is presently working, leave it that way. If it fails lash out at it.

That is how they told us we were prepared for Covid-19 and few months later infected people are strolling into the country like if it is nothing.

You can buy the lie they are selling but I am not.

If these crooks who call themselves leaders are prepared, let them list the steps taking and the preventive measures on ground.

Till now, we are not even Quarantining people from high risk region. Such incompetence is what you are praising.
