Republic Of South Africa Goes Into 21-day National Lockdown by abdullahi45: 9:21pm On Mar 23, 2020
On sunday evening, President Ramaphosa has announced a 21-day lockdown to curtail the spread of COVID19. This is coming 3 weeks after the index case with the number of confirmed cases presently at 402.

The lockdown means all South Africans must stay indoor from the 26th of March to the 16th of April. The only exempted groups include essential services personnel such as health practitioners, security agencies and those involved in food and goods supply.

During this period individuals will not be allowed to leave their homes except under strictly controlled circumstances, such as to seek medical care, buy food, medicine and other supplies or collect a social grant. He also advises South Africans to adhere strictly to this restrictions to their normal lifestyles while also carrying out other appropriate hygienic precautionary measures such as proper hand washing with soap or sanitiser, avoiding sick people and sneezing with tissues or elbow.
