I ask this question cuz i just learnt that some married men use their infants as next of kin when they have a mature wife at home. Why? i asked i got the shock of my life. One man in particular said his wife after his death may run off and marry someonelse leaving his kids to suffer. Imagine that!!! this particular trend has created alot of problems in Nigeria today. When the deceased is buried his extended family come knocking to claim all his benefits. They would say the next of kin is an infant, that everything would be kept for him till he is of age. I was told of an igbo(somewhere in Ebonyi state) custom where everything goes to the deceased brother not his immediate family. If no brother then to his sister's sons. can you beat that!!!!!!!!!
if you use your wife, i believe she can fight this fight in court and do away with these bad practices. they wouldnt have a case in the first place. Some men use their mothers, i have really heard a lot today.

if such guys could talk say such things. then where does the issue of trust lie?

before the kids came into being, there has been your wife or your husband so why use your child as you next of kin if your spouse is still alive.
the bible says so shall a man leave his mother and father and shall cleave to his wife and they twain shall become as one flesh.
your spouse is your better half so why choose someone else as your next of kin?

Your spouse should be your next of kin. People use their son/daughter also, which could be acceptable to me but using your brother or sister when you are married does'nt make sense to me

case closed, then they can will their property or whatever to their son(s) or daughter(s) as the case may be.
