FOOD FOR THE BRAIN

Feeding our brain is a hot topic, and it should be! Studies have shown that eating certain foods can help ward off Alzheimers and improve memory.

Foods such as sodas, cakes and cookies that contain high fructose corn syrup and other sweeteners have been linked to interruptions in the brain.

Whole foods that are rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals have been proven to help with memory, computing power, and preventing disease.

Here are some great brain healthy foods.

AVOCADOS.
Avocados are often confused with being unhealthy due to its high fat content, whereas in reality they are rich in 'monosaturated fats'. These fats keep the blood sugar level of our body at healthy levels and enhances our mental ability.

DARK CHOCOLATE.
Dark chocolate contains flavanols which help in lowering blood pressure and keeps you calm under stress. This helps you to focus more.

EGG YOLK.
Egg yolk is one of the major food component that helps in development of the brain of a growing child and even fetal brain development of an unborn.

TOMATOES.
Tomatoes are rich in lycopene, an antioxidant which protects the cells of brain and nullifies the chances of developing Alzheimer's during old age.

SAGE.
Adding fresh sage or consuming sage oil as a part of your diet helps your brain to memorize easily. It works as an antioxidant for the body.

NUTS.
Studies say nuts are rich source of Vitamin E which help our brain to retain more than normal and works positively on the memory loss problems.

TUMERIC.
Turmeric is the most common and easily found spice in an Indian household. It works as an antioxidant and protects your brain from inflammation.

ONIONS.
Onions are a good natural source of folate. Folate has been shown to improve the blood flow to the brain by decreasing homocysteine levels in the body. This also may have beneficial effects for those suffering with depression.

APPLES.

Studies from 2006 showed that a common compound in apples, quercetin, may protect the neurons in our brain against oxidation. It is believed that the quercetin reduces cellular death in the brain related to oxidation and inflammation of the neurons. This process may play an important role in reducing neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s.

TEA.
The combination of caffeine and the amino acid L-Theanine found in tea, has been shown to have powerful effects on brain function. In a 2017 study, green tea was shown to improve cognition, memory power, and reduce anxiety.
