corona virus destroys the human lungs through a process called cytokine storm. cytokine storm refers to the overreaction of the immnue system. cytokine storms are proteins and these proteins signals your immune cells to come to the site of infection. sometimes the body produces large amount of cytokines during an infection causing it to send more and more immnue cells to the infection site. this leads to hyperinflation which could kill the patient. the corona virus enters the lungs through to lower respiratory track, that's where tiny sacks called aveoli are located. aveoli is a region in the lungs where oxygen and carbon dioxide are exchanged. because of the cytokin storm, the immune system begins to destroy the aveoli. this causes the lining of your lungs to become thicker than normal leading to pneumonia a sickness characterized by breathing difficulty and dry cough. the hyperinflation caused by cytokine storm makes the immune system to destroy healthy cells in the lungs and this makes your lungs more vulnerable to bacterial infection. when the lungs is affected, other organs like kidney, liver and brain becomes deprived of oxygen. eventually patients need ventilators to receive enough oxygen. in some cases like young corona virus patients, the immune system coordinates itself and overcome the cytokine storm but in patients that are above 60years and with pre-existing health problems like diabetes and heart disease, they find it hard to overcome this.

nope. read the end part. I am saying those with good immune system will have a coordinated immune response when cytokine storms are produced like young people with no pre-existing health issues
