Government to set up Food Market Across Rivers State
Local Government Chairman of Obia/Akpor Suspended indefinitely

The Rivers State Government has imposed a dusk to dawn (6pm - 6am) curfew on the state in an effort to curb the spread of the Coronavirus in the state.

The Governor of the state Chief Barrister Nyesom Wike made this known in a broadcast on Monday. The curfew is to take effect from Tuesday, 31 March 2020. He however, excluded those performing essential services from the ban like journalist, medical personal, those in the power sector, petroleum products etc.

The governor also directed traditional rulers, youth leaders, and community development committee to make sure all beer parlors in their community are closed down

The governor said the state is considering setting up Food Market across the state were residents can buy essential commodities.

The governor announced the suspension of the Local Government Chairman of Obia/Akpor, Solomon Abel and his deputy for failing to carry out the government instruction on the closing of all market in their LGA.

The food market is a welcomed development. I also suggest that they sell at a controlled Government prices. A situation where a bucket of garri that used to go for about #500.00 automatically becomes #2,500.00 is more deadly than corona virus and must be rightly addressed.
