This was a question raised by one of our Church members, in Salvation Ministries (service is fully online now, Papa connects from studio), in one of our love and relationship service that normally holds at 4:30 pm, every Sunday. The presiding Pastor, David Ibiyeomie, said it was a commendable observation, noting that we copy the western world in almost everything. By right, it is the man that is supposed to wed the man, simce he's the one paying the pride price. That means it should be John weds Mary, not Mary weds John.
The man of God further noted that the Church will consider this issue.

What's your take on this?

In the western tradition which we are copying, the man enters into the marriage in service to the woman who is his master ( in this case mistress). That's why you kneel before her to propose. Una dey always copy without adequate understanding of what you are getting into.

African traditional marriage, and western wedding are different and irreconcilable institutions, but we keep trying to combine them.

1) African marriage, woman is subordinate to the man as symbolised by the bride kneeling to offer drink to the husband. In western marriage the reverse is the case.

2) African marriage is between two families, hence the marriage continues even upon the demise of the husband. In western marriage it's only till death do us part.

3) African marriage, polygamy is allowed. Western marriage is monogamous.

Even if women are to be allowed to put their name as the first with the condition of sponsoring the card printing.

How many of them can finance it?
