Ebonyi is a state in southeastern Nigeria. It is inhabited and populated primarily by the Igbos. Its capital and largest city is Abakaliki. Other major towns include Afikpo, Unwana, Onueke, Edda, Onicha, etc. It was one of the six states created in 1996, by the then federal military government of General Sani Abacha.

In addition, The state has three senatorial zones. Ebonyi North, Ebonyi South and Ebonyi Central. There are thirteen local government areas as well as development centres, created by the state government.

Furthermore, Ebonyi is home to eight major higher institutions of learning: Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki (EBSU); Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu Alike Ikwo (AE FUNAI); Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Unwana; Savannah Institute of Technology, Ishieke Junction, Abakaliki; Federal College of Agriculture, Ishiagu; Ebonyi State College of Education Ikwo (EBSCOEI), Evangel University, Okpoto and College of Health Sciences, Ezzamgbo, The Nigerian College of Advanced Health Science and Technology Onicha Ohaozara.
