The immune system defends the body against infections, attacks germs and keep us healthy. When the body senses foreign substances called antigens, the immune system works together to get rid of the antigens. This function can be performed best when the immune system is boosted in several ways through the practice of some healthy habits and lifestyles.

Ways to boost your immune system

Several healthy habits and lifestyles can help boost your immune system and keep it working to starve off illness and infections from foreign substance(antigens).
To protect the body against infections from harmful substances, the immune system has to perform its function exactly according to plan. To make sure this happens, you must practice healthy habits and lifestyles.
Here are the guidelines:

1.Eat healthy foods
Healthy diets are known to function well in the boosting bof immune system especially foods rich in vitamin C and proteins.

2.Practice regular exercise
Regular exercise lowers the risk of certain diseases like obesity, type-2 diabetes, heart attack as well as viral and bacterial infections. Regular exercise also induces the release of endorphins(happiness hormone) which has a positive impact on stress management.

3.Moderate the intake of alcohol
High intake of alcohol has a negative impact on the immune system. This lowers the body’s ability to fight infections which is the main function of the immune system.

4.Avoid the smoking of cigarettes
Smoking of cigarettes also has negative impact on the immune system as the toxins released by cigarettes compromises the immune system. Chemicals released by cigarettes like carbon monoxide, nicotine, nitrogen oxide and cadmium interfers with the immune cells functions.

5.Proper stress management
Long term stress elevates the level of the hormone cortisol in the body. Cortisol helps to prevent the body from responding before the stressful event is over. But when the level of cortisol is high, it prevents the immune system from performing its functions to protect the body from attack by foreign harmful substances and germs like bacteria and viruses.
