The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has poured out dissatisfaction over the new law from the Ministry of Interior head by Rauf Aregbesola that compulsory payment of N30,000 by Churches to perform statutory marriages and N21,000 for each marriages certificate.

PFN has alleged that churches are being targeted by the Federal Government following the new marriage certificate law introduced by the Ministry of Interior.

PFN’s National President of the fellowship, Rev.(Dr.) Felix Omobude who lashed out at the Ministry of Interior over the imposition of a compulsory N30,000 charge license for Christian worship centres for the conduct of statutory marriages in churches and N21,000 for each marriage certificate alleged that it is an attempt to commercialize Christian marriages in the country.

Omobude called on the Federal Government to shelve the unpopular policy which he said is exploitative and targeted against Christian marriages in the country. He added that they will use every legal means to stop the new marriage certificate law.

He said;

“This is very unfair and to the best of our understanding, the new law is targeted against the Church because the Traditional and Islamic weddings are exempted from paying the new marriage certificate fees.
“PFN is at a loss as to why Church Marriages should be in the exclusive list of the nation’s constitution. The PFN, therefore calls on the Federal Government to immediately shelve the unpopular policy targeted against Christian marriages in the country.
“If the Ministry of Interior is in dire need of funds, it should look elsewhere and resist the temptation of placing an extra financial burden on the Christians and their churches

Well, there's always a solution to every problem... Do your court wedding, trad/engagement and invite the pastor to your reception to join you together. Lobatan!

Not surprised at all. The govt is very insensitive. Maybe one day Christians will pay for air they breathe in.

Churches should give back to the community na. However, the amount should be based on what each individual church is receiving from the couple-to-be. In that way, Pastor Oyedepo's church will have to pay higher than pastors of Cele possessing churches where poverty is stinking.

I'm not a Muslim. I'm anti-religion. Mosques can give back too, based on what they have collected from the masses. But what have they really collected from the masses? Peanuts.

So who pays those monies?
Church or couples involved?
So unfair to the body of Christ. Why tax church and not other religious bodies?
As usual, if worst comes to worse, well scale through. After all, Jesus told His deciples to give what belongs to Caesar to Caesar.

We matching on and the gates of hell shall not prevail against us.

Shalom.

You are making even less sense now.

Money collected have uses and are used appropriately so you have no point.

What God says is that we give unto Caesar what's his and to God what's his. Why should what's God's be transfered to Caesar when Caesar controls the resource God has put in the land(oil) and is the one paying wages from where a fraction goes to the church as tithes and offering and another to Caesar as tax?
Use what God gave you.
