In my opinion England is a geographic country in the United kingdom just like Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland. United Kingdom is a political state of a combination of Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland. But for simplicity sake England: a constituent country of the United Kingdom The United Kingdom: a kingdom made up of four countries : England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland(aka Ulster).(Also includes the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands) Great Britain : alternate name for the United Kingdom. England is a nation - a semi-independent one. Great Britain is a place. It consists of 3 nations - England, Scotland & Wales. United Kingdom is a country - it consists of Great Britain & Northern Ireland. Hence, UK is officially known as the United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland. The full title of UK is United Kingdoms of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Great Britain is the Kingdoms of England, Wales and Scotland. When you add the Kingdom of Northern Ireland it becomes the UK. England is the largest of the Kingdoms so their Queen is the head of the UK. London, the capital of England is also the capital of Great Britain and the UK. |
