KUALA LUMPUR: Two Nigerian men and two Malaysian women have been charged in a magistrate’s court here with the kidnapping of a Moroccan businessman.

Students Abbas Chidiebera Standy, 33, and Nwosu Douglas Oluchi, 25, – together with three people still at large – were accused of kidnapping Elmourabiti Smail for ransom.

The offence was allegedly committed at a parking lot of the Pan Global building in Jalan P. Ramlee here at about 2pm on Dec 11, last year.

The Africans were charged under Sect 3 of the Kidnapping Act 1961 and face the death sentence or a life jail term and whipping if found guilty. They were denied bail.

Meanwhile, Yeap Tse Wei, 28, and Alysa Marianna Mohamed Yusuf, 24, were both charged in the same court with receiving and handling the ransom, respectively and knew the money was being paid for the victim.

Yeap, a graphic designer, was accused of taking the RM100,000 ransom from one Boey Lai Peng at Apartment Sri Sayang in Batu Feringghi in Penang between 9pm to 9.30pm on Dec 16, last year.

Alysa, an account clerk, was accused of handling the withdrawal of RM350,000 at CIMB Bank in Jalan Solaris, Mon’t Kiara between 3pm to 3.30pm on Dec 15, last year.

The two women were charged under Section 5 of the Act and face a jail sentence of not more than 10 years and whipping.

ASP D. R. Ghanthi Nathan appeared for the prosecution.

Magistrate Siti Shakirah Mohtarudin set bail at RM15,000 in two sureties for each of the women and ordered their passports impounded. No plea was recorded from all the accused.

The cases are fixed for mention on Jan 31 before being transfered to the High Court.
