A brief background of Coronavirus exposes that the Human coronaviruses were discovered in the 1960s. The earliest ones studied were from human patients with the common cold, which were later named human coronavirus 229E and human coronavirus OC43. They were first imaged by Scottish Virologist, June Almeida at St. Thomas Hospital in London.

The coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) is a highly transmittable and pathogenic viral infection caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which emerged in Wuhan, China and spread around the world.
Coronaviruses belong to the Coronaviridae family in the Nidovirales order. Corona represents crown-like spikes on the outer surface of the virus thus, it was named as a coronavirus. Coronaviruses are minute in size (65–125 nm in diameter) and contain a single-stranded RNA as a nucleic material.

Recently at the end of 2019, Wuhan an emerging business hub of China experienced an outbreak of a novel coronavirus that killed more than 1600 persons and infected over seventy thousand individuals within the first fifty days of the epidemic. This virus was reported to be a member of the B group of coronaviruses. The novel virus was named as Wuhan coronavirus or 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCov) by the Chinese researchers.

Nigeria as a Sovereign State has established some standards and control measures in the reaction to the invading virus. To augment the Efforts of the Federal Government, state Governments has also joined in providing stimulus packages, palliatives and controls measures to minimize the spread of the disease.

As at 11:50 PM Sunday, April 19 2020 there are 627 confirmed cases of Covid-19 with 170 discharge and 21 deaths and this cuts across different states in the federation with the exception of Bayelsa State and others.
Bayelsans have been encouraged to adhere to the standing orders given by the government to help prevent the novel coronavirus from gaining entrance into the state.

This call was made by the Deputy Director General, Diri Lawrence Youth project and a reputable Youth Development Advocate, Comrade Atti J. Moses saying that Senator Douye Diri policies, palliatives and stimulus packages in reaction to the dreaded Corona Virus is geared towards limiting the possibilities of Bayelsans contacting Covid-19. Hence, Bayelsans should adhere to these orders. Some of which are:
-No leaving or entry into the state when it is 7pm.
-No movement within the state from 7pm till 6am Curfew .
-Sales of only Essential Commodities in our markets.
-No gathering of People in the State above 20 persons.
-No Sunday mass, services or church programs in the state where people are to converge physically.
-The Institution of Task force at LGA levels to be headed by their chairpersons etc.
The above and others are control measures which are geared towards limiting the possibilities of Bayelsans and its residents from contacting the dreaded virus.

There is also the provision of stimulus Packages that include the distribution of food items and money to all the Wards in the State so as to reduce the negative economic impact of the virus, and palliative like the Corona virus Isolation Center in Niger Delta Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri etc.

Atti J. Moses further appreciated the State Government led by His Excellency, Sen. Douye Diri and his Deputy Sen. Lawrence Ewrujiakpor in their swift response to the pandemic and also went ahead to commend individuals and Corporate organizations for reaching out to the state, communities and individuals in this trying times.
