Brief History of Covid-19?

Covid 19 is a disease caused by a new strain of Corona virus. The 'CO' stands for Corona, Vi for virus and D for disease, the  number 19 is the year when this new strain occurred. The Covid-19 virus is linked to the family of same viruses as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). This group of viruses are known to cause symptoms such as common cold and Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI). Two prior Corona viruses, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS- COV) and Miiddle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-COV) has affected over a thousand people and resulted in a great number of death.

Covid-19 was originated from the city of Wuhan,the largest city in central China,with a population of over 11 million people. On January 23rd, the city shut down transport links. Following the lockdown of Wuhan,the city of Huanggang was placed in quarantine. On the 12th of February, 2020, the global confirmed cases reported was 45 171, with China topping the chart with a number of 44 730 cases, 8204 being severe and 1114 deaths. While outside of China, the number of confirmed cases in 24 countries was 441 with 1 death. Among these 24 countries, 23 report cases with an exposure with china, 11 of these 23 countries report cases attributed to local transmission inside the reporting countries. 4 of the 24 countries report cases were likely to be exposure that occurred outside the reporting countries and outside of China. The most likely Countries where exposure occurred among these four reporting Countries were Japan, Singapore, Germany and France.

As at 20th of April 2020, 8:20 GMT, the number of global  confirmed cases has skyrocketed to 2 414 595 with 165 175(21%) deaths and a recovery of 629 437(79%). The number of currently infected patients is 1 619 984, with 1 565 768(97%) of the currently infected patients in mild conditions while 54 216(3%) of the currently infected patients in critical conditions.

The Covid-19 currently is affecting 210 countries and territories around the world and also 2 international conveyances with the USA having a higher number of confirmed cases (764 265) and a higher number of confirmed deaths (40 565) with a recovery of 71 012. In china,the current number of confirmed cases is 82 747 with a confirmed death of 4 632 and a confirmed recovery of 77 084.  In West Africa, Nigeria, currently,the number of confirmed cases is 627, 21 confirmed deaths and 170 confirmed confirmed recovery.The coronavirus outbreak was declared a Global Public Health Emergency by the World Health Organization on January 30.

Symptoms

Covid-19 may be Symptomatic or Asymptomatic. The Symptoms may take 2 - 14 days to manifest and During this period, the virus may be contagious.
