The quality of the water in your pond affects the growth and productivity of your catfish.

Without adequate management of water quality catfish are prone to slow growth, diseases and death.

Most fish health problems occur because of poor water quality, overcrowding, dietary deficiencies leading to stress.

Two main water quality problems that occur in catfish ponds:

pH
Dissolved gases ( oxygen, carbon dioxide, Hydrogen Sulphide, ammonia)

pH
Fish production can be greatly affected by too low or high pH.
A pH from 6.5 to 8.5 in fish pond are generally the most suitable for pond fish production. A pH below 4.5, equal to or greater than 11 will lead to fish dying in pond. While a pH greater than 9 can be harmful to fish eggs and juveniles

DO (Dissolved Oxygen)

Dissolved Oxygen is one of the major indicators of water quality. Catfish needs sufficient amounts of oxygen dissolved in water to survive and thrive.

Low dissolved oxygen is the most common stress for catfish. Very low levels of dissolved oxygen cause reductions in feeding, feed conversion and slow growth.

Over feeding of fish can also contribute to low dissolved oxygen.

When catfish are fed excess the remaining food given to fish in pond will add excess organic matter to the pond. The decomposition of this excess organic matter by bacteria increases the oxygen demand and likewise increases the chances of low dissolved oxygen.

Ammonia (NH3)

The main source of all the ammonia in fish ponds is the protein in feed. When feed protein is completely broken down ammonia is produced within the fish and excreted through the gills into pond water. The rate at which fish excrete ammonia is directly related to the feeding rate and the protein level in feed.

Toxic ammonia concentrations may occur in fish pond when the levels of ammonia are high.
Ammonia toxicity may cause fish to gather around inflowing water or at the pond edge. Fish may lie on the bottom of pond, swim slowly near the surface or along the fish pond. Gills may be red and swollen.

Carbon Dioxide
Carbon dioxide concentration tends to be high when dissolved oxygen concentration is low. High carbon dioxide concentration reduces the ability of how catfish can absorb dissolved oxygen. Fish affected by carbon dioxide lie motionless on the pond bottom.

Hydrogen Sulfide
Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is excreted by bacteria during anaerobic decomposition of waste products on the pond bottom. Hydrogen sulfide smells like rotten eggs may cause water to appear gray, then suddenly clear within a few hours.

Maintaining quality water management in pond helps in prevention of catfish mortality and diseases, creating a stress free healthy environment for the fishes to grow faster.

Fish - Zyme is highly effective in fish pond fertilization and pond conditioning, creating a near aquatic environment for the fish in the pond.

Fish - Zyme is the best way of maintaining quality water in ponds for fishes, ensuring adequate oxygen supply, reducing water pollution, increasing absorption of nutrient for faster growth in a short period of time.

Benefits of Fish - Zyme

Reduces the cost of feeding

Reduces water pollution

Increases oxygen content in pond

Enhances fish growth and weight

Reduces rate of water change

what of if u don't feed them well and their is good water quality in the pond?

Every living creature rely on food for survival. In as much as they need supplement which boost their immunity, they also need food for survival
