Research On Covid-19 and Other Epidemics Before It

First of, we will begin with what is coronavirus?. Coronavirus 2019 also known as covid 19 is a novel virus that is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The disease was first identified in December 31, 2019 in Wuhan, China.
Since then it has become a global pandemic, infecting 3.13 million people in over 185 countries, resulting in 217,000+ deaths and 937,000+ recoveries.

The Virus is mostly spread through people during close contact, often via breathing in small droplets produced by coughing, sneezing or talking. People can also get infected by touching contaminated surfaces and then touching their face.

Before the outbreak of covid 19, there has been various pandemics that rock the world, notable ones are Spanish Flu, Swine Flu and Asian Flu.

1918 Spanish Flu; Spanish Flu was an influenza caused by H1N1 virus with genes of avian origin. Although no one knows where it originated from, some say China, some say Europe. It was believed to have infected 500 million people resulting to 50 million deaths.
The virus just like covid 19 attacks the respiratory system. The virus is mostly spread by breathing in droplets from an infected person or touching contaminated surfaces and then touching the face.

1957 Asian Flu; The 1957 influenza pandemic also known as Asian Flu was a global pandemic of influenza of a virus subtype H2N2, which originated in Guizhou, China and killed at least 1 million people worldwide.

2009 Swine Flu; The swine flu pandemic was an influenza pandemic that lasted for about 20 months, from January 2009 to August 2010. The virus originated from a new strain of H1N1, which resulted from a previous triple reassortment of bird, swine and human flu viruses leading to the term swine flu. It was first identified in North America, precisely Veracruz, Mexico. It infected 1.6 million people worldwide, resulting to 18,449 deaths(confirmed) and 284,000+ deaths(unconfirmed).

Despite the high fatality rate of these pandemics, and the closing down of economies worldwide, the world still went back to the way it was before the viruses outbreaks, so covid 19 won't be any worst. At the moment, many countries are in lockdown and there are many conspiracies going on that suggest that this scenario will be with us in a long while. But there's hope, for every dark tunnel, there's is a ray of light.
