Seun, you don't cut off the head because it has a headache. If you close this thread, you are no different from our leaders that would rather treat symptoms of an issue, instead of dealing with the issue itself. People scammed in other threads as well. Would you have to close down every thread with reports of scamming?

Begin by making account registration stricter. Let people have to include their phone numbers during registration. This will discourage premeditative scammers who wantonly create new accounts to scam people.

Also, contributors of this thread have been doing some sort of self-policing where we point out confirmed scammers, but your team have not been swift in banning these scammers, leaving them to roam and continue posting to lure unsuspecting members.

Finally, Nairaland is large enough to float its own dedicated Escrow system. A lot of remote transactions and economic activities are spurred from Nairaland. Having an Escrow system will provide protection to buyers and sellers, while generating revenues for Nairaland.

Just my thoughts

Don't deal with new accounts without escrow, especially when they have no long reputation or history of successful and honest trades. The account was opened on 21st December. Although I have little cause to approach those new accounts for any trades, I normally look at every new account suddenly trading all funds or some funds with suspicion.

True bro. Nothing fit make me deal with new Moniker for this thread, especially those advertising all funds at once.
Moreover, I have been a victim of $450, 350, and $300 Paypal chargeback on this same thread, and I can boldly say that some victims are the cause of their predicaments. When you do your due diligence and not in a haste, you can easily identify legit vendors from scammers on this thread. My 2cents.

I don't think shutting the thread will be a good idea, even if you shut it down the scammers will move to other thread, so your action would have spoil business for the genuine people.

There are rules and guidelines that has been explain here so many times on how to avoid scam like using reputable escrow and doing proper search, I think there is also a thread that have list of scammers, most of this scammers are listed there even though they keep changing moniker.

Nairaland could also come up with his own escrow services, let's alway's look for ways of improving things, this is my humble suggestion.

At bolded, the way people just move on since they are not the victim amazed me.

The dude that scammed me 2.5m is still at large and inside over 20 whatsapp trading groups chat and nobody send as usual. Although he's deactivated one of his nairaland account Freiden.

I endorse this Post. Shutting down the thread can never be a good idea. We have legit individuals we have connected and dealt with from this same thread for years now. Moreover, some businesses thrives from this same thread.

I think what we need here is an active business owners on this thread who will serve as moderators and escrows, I mean someone who can easily identify the wheat from the chaff. This is my opinion on this matter.
