As the novel coronavirus bites harder and no universally accepted drugs yet to fight the virus, we have to adopt the prevention approach. Although USA has approved Remdesivir (an ebola virus drug) as emergency treatment drug for the COVID-19, while Madagascar, an island country in Africa did produce their own drug which is reported to be effective and so on, all these are to be tested further so as to get a universally adopted cure.

Note that coronavirus is a communicable disease from person to person. It can be spread via sputum (while talking), bodily fluids like sweat and touching infected persons and objects. As lockdown is partially lifted in Nigeria, some people can go out to buy food in designated days, Managerial level civil servants, essential workers/ security agents and select others can work.

While scientists and politicians figure that out, we have to protect our selves from coronavirus here in Nigeria. Here are the 8 possible ways one can contact the virus, especially if the lockdown is lifted viz:

8. Money/Bills: Since coronavirus is a virus that can be spread via direct contact with an infected PERSON, THING or SURFACE, money is the fastest means to spread the virus, especially if we do not wear hand gloves while handing money. Have you been to bulk rooms in banks? You would notice that some Teller wear hand gloves and nose masks while counting the bills. Why? Ordinarily, bacteria (both harmful and otherwise) can be transferred via Naira notes. Money travels far and wide, from the pepper seller in the market, to the aboki selling suya and so on. You see why it is dangerous to handle money WITHOUT hand gloves during this pandemic. It could cause people to be infected indirectly. Wear hand gloves while handling money so as to protect yourself.

7. Public Transport: Imagine the rail in a bus (like BRT in Lagos or "El Rufai buses in Abuja) that is touched/held by several passengers when boarding such buses or just to maintain balance for those that are standing. Can you imagine an infected person boarding a bus and touches any surface like the rail and during the course of 1 week, just imagine the amount of Nigerians that would be infected just from one contact. In a similar vein, door handles in taxis, seats, door panels and so on could be infected. Also trains, motorcycles (you can touch the motorcycle while boarding and disembarking), airports and airplanes and watercrafts are not left out. You can protect yourselves by wearing handgloves, long sleeve cloths and nose masks.

6. Chairs and tables in public places like bars, gyms, eateries, and so on. Also motor parks, bus stops are possible danger spots. If possible, avoid a crowded place and wear long sleeves, nose mask and hand gloves.

5. Phones, Laptops, computers and other gadgets: Imagine you give an infected person your phone to take you some pictures, or share contact (like that new girl you like), you may contact the virus. If possible, use a little methylated spirit and dip a little in a clean cloth to disinfect your phone daily or anytime some other person touches your gadgets without hand gloves. Be careful not to spoil your gadgets by over soaking the cloth with the methylated spirit.

4. By touching items you what to buy but you aren't wearing hand gloves: Nigerians are fond of touching whatever they want to buy, especially women. In a bid to check out wares, customers tend to touch, try out the item before paying. Some people can touch wares for minutes only to abandon it to another shop. An infected person who without hand glove, for example touches a dried fish and later does not buy it, the next person who buys that fish risks being infected. How to protect yourself by wearing hand gloves and wash food items immediately you get home, pull your hand glove.

3. Large crowds and gatherings: Such as weddings, bus stops, markets, buria;s, parties and so on. This can not be over emphasised. Avoid crowds more than 10 persons and when you dom, keep at least two meters distance between people and put on nose masks and hand gloves and avoid shaking hands and/or contacts, especially with uncovered part of the body.

2. Hospitals/Isolation Centres: If you are sick or have need to visit a hospital or health institution, wear nose masks and hand gloves to protect your self. Of course, isolation centres are out-of-bounds to healthy people. Even when there are no COVID-19 patients in that place, be careful.

1. SEX: you may wonder what relationship does COVID-19 has with sex. During this period of lockdown, many people have run out of cash and girls/women are vulnerable now. In a bid to 'survive' they may yield to more men and who know if that man or Alhaji is infected. When sweats touch or during kissing, one could contact the virus. Of course, you know how to avoid contacting coronavirus via sex - avoid it, if possible.

Remember that coronavirus is an 'imported' disease of the rich but through infected surfaces, objects and people, one can contact the virus. Protect yourselves by wearing hand gloves, nose masks and by wearing long sleeves. You can have two hand gloves and nose masks each (1 in use and 1 spares). You may argue that hand gloves and nose masks causes you to heat up but would you rather be dead? Wash your hand gloves every day by dipping it into a small portion of methylated spirit (makes it dry fast) and with water, wash your nose masks daily.

Stay safe.

People have to know that it is not only by wearing facemasks (if they even wear).

Touching contaminated surfaces can't give you coronavirus. Touching your face is what you should avoid. Simple.

Nice. Other specific common ways people should watch our for include:

- Handling ATM / POS machines
- Opening the gates of a multi-inhabited compound with bare hands
- Handling groceries, provisions and other items purchased from malls/supermarkets without sterilizing their surfaces with sanitizers (different people touch many items in supermarkets and the AC also helps to circulate any virus pathogens)
- Buying foodstuff that is commonly handled by other people, and consumed in the state it was bought e.g Garri, Bread, pastries etc
- Taking private cabs without protective measures. Cabs commonly carry people that travel around a lot and who are more prone to contract CoVid 19
- Inviting artisans into your house for repairs/upgrades without precautionary measures as they typically move around many other people's houses

That's all for now. Please let's all take necessary precautions.
