FG Must Stop Deployment Of 5G Network Now – Senate by brojoes5030: 10:51pm On May 05, 2020
The Senate on Tuesday asked the Nigerian government to immediately suspend the planned deployment of 5G network to the nation.

The 5G is the fifth generation of mobile technology which is an improvement of today’s 4G technology with enhanced capabilities. The technology provides the platform for new and emerging technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Big Data to improve the way we live and work.

Last month, the 5G was rumored to be one of the causes of COVID-19. But the Nigerian Communications Commission cleared doubts over the network, COVID-19, and security.

It also denied that the network was already deployed in the country.

Senator Uche Ekwunife had drawn the attention of the upper chamber to the status of the 5G network in the country.

According to her, the motion was borne out of the need to assure Nigerians of their safety by asking the Federal Government to postpone the launch until a proper investigation was carried out.

Deputy Majority Leader, Senator Ajayi Boroffice, said the 5G network deployment remained a controversial issue, saying that experts should be allowed to handle it and deliberate on the merits and demerits of its deployment.

Speaking Senator Opeyemi Bamidele expressed that it would be flighty of any legislature to buy into an innovation that would not be alright for its residents, including that no logical research had been finished by any office of the Federal Government on the 5G organize.

The legislator expressed that nations in Europe were at that point researching the ramifications of the organization and asked why Nigeria presently couldn’t seem to do as such.

The PUNCH reports that the Senate, along these lines, asked its boards of trustees on Communication, Science, Technology and ICT, and that of Health to lead a careful examination with the end goal of deciding the status of the 5G organize in the nation.

Meanwhile, the Senate asked the pertinent government organization overseeing the ICT activities in the nation to suspend the 5G sending until an intensive test to decide its reasonableness for human wellbeing had been accomplished.

The joint committees were asked to submit its report within four weeks.
