Female FRCN OAP Presenter Kidnapped, Abia Gov Orders CP To Rescue Her

A female Chinenye Iwuoha identified as journalist and On Air Pre­senter (OAP) with the Federal Radio Corpo­ration (FRCN), Paceset­ter FM, Umuahia, was on Monday night kidnapped by armed men at Amaka­ma in Umuahia South LGA of Abia State.

Consequently, the state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has directed the new Commis­sioner of Police, Abia State Command, Janeth Agbede, to immediately smoke out her abductors and rescue her unharmed forthwith.

The incident which oc­curred at about 8:30 p.m. on the Amakama axis of the Umuahia-Ururuka-Aba Road near the popular Amakama Housing Estate saw the driv­er of the Hilux van belonging to Radio Nigeria shot in the stomach.

It was learnt that the hood­lums trailed the presenter and the FRCN crew to that point as they were returning from work having closed for the day. The Station Manager, Uche Ndukwu, had to make a dive into the bush as the gun­men shot sporadically into the air.

Sources said that the hood­lums trailed the FRCN staff from their station to where they were eventually attacked on a motorcycle and a Sienna car without being noticed and in bid to stop the driver from speeding away, shot him in the stomach, thereby destabilis­ing the movement.

A witness said that those in the car were Chinenye Iwuoha, the Station Manger, Kingsley Onyegbule, Nnam­di Egwuagu and the driver, adding that the shooting of the driver forestalled the oc­cupants of the vehicle from raising an alarm.

“They probably thought that Chinenye was the Sta­tion Manager as she sat at the back of the Hilux van while Ndukwu was in the front with the driver,” the source disclosed. However, the driver of the vehicle who was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Fed­eral Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia, is said to be re­sponding to treatment.
