It is painful, our main source of revenue is now less than $50 per barrel
It was still our main source of revenue when it was $30 per barrel during the time of Obasanjo

Good question.

If employers such as Chicken Republic have to pay the kinds of minimum wage to their employees like you have in California for example, then the chicken and rice you are buying will have to be priced like it is in California which is a whole lot more than N500 or N800.
The more you make employers pay their employees, the more cost they will pass on to the customers. No employer is going to bare the extra cost from their profit or they will simply go out of business. It could essentially leads to hyper inflation since the govt will have to borrow or print more money to pay for these increased minimum wages.
The minimum wage is low and should be increased but not to the level where employers can't sell their goods at reasonable prices.

If the price of oil stays this low for a longer duration, the price of fuel will still come down some more. The point I was making is that people iin the US and UK are saying the same thing people are saying here - if oil prices are so low why are we still paying almost the same price as before? Oil are sold in future contracts hence the oil that is used to refine the fuel now was more than likely bought when oil was selling at a higher price.
If the price stays this low for much longer then the price of fuel will also go down some more.
Oga stop justifying nonsense , that guy finished the discussion with his logical points.

Very few countries sells petroleum cheaper than Nigeria.
Subsidies has been completely revoked and it sells this low.
We need to take advantage and stop complaining..

We have natural gift. But we are buying what we have. Those countries that sell above don't have it naturally, or for strategic purpose they are not exploiting theirs. Cost of doing business is high in Nigeria if you factor in the minimum wage that is about 70 USD.

Now I know Nigerians can't read thoroughly...
Petrol pump price is still@ #125.
PPR is the only body that determines products prices and the above info said they haven't yet said anything.
NNPC is not PPRA.

If oil were to skyrocket back to $60, these people will immediately jac the price back up. This country is a mess and inefficient at everything it does.

Crude oil is so abundant for any refinery around the world. Imagine if Nigeria had a refinery, petrol would have been less Dan 30 naira per litre

Can Nigeria do what those countries are doing for their citizens

Or is it just to copy the aspect that suites the government

Petrol should sell much more lower than this price if the govt truly wants to be sincere to itself.
Show us your calculation to justify your statement. The way you guys just talk anyhow and the number of likes you get shows how the future of this country is in danger. Are you aware that government is using this opportunity of low crude price to remove fuel subsidy, If you are aware, what is that supposed to mean to you?

I know that all that economic explanation is too complicated for you to understand. Pls go back to bed.
I agree with the guy on some points and I made my own observations.

Forget US and UK, how much is fuel sold for in other African countries with less or similar minimum wage?

Angola which is also an oil producing country is still selling oil at about 115 per liter.
In Ghana is about N440 per liter. Ghana is also an oil producing country at a lower level than Nigeria.
It's about N500 Naira in Senegal and much more in some other African countries.
All in all, Nigeria and Angola are the countries with the lowest price of fuel and with similar economic outlook in Africa.

Do some research before castigating people or simply don't comment on issues that you are not sure of. No be by force to comment.

Very correct sir,
Specifically nnpc official say our is 3 months future purchase.
So prices of sold or oil have been done 3 months ago.

PigTormentor:

You do made a lot of valid points. Part of the reason for higher fuel cost in the US and UK is TAXES. Each locality has a tax on Fuel the varied cost from State to State. Another important issue that we should remember is that because price of oil today is 10 dollars does not mean that the fuel you are buying today was also sold at 10 dollars before refining it. Oil are purchased in the future like 6 months contracts. Thanks

Why not compare our minimum wage and advice the government to also match up

very good at this time. the federal government should also caution our security agencies to stop collecting money from motorist. it makes them increase the transport fare. especially owerri portharcourt road.
