Over 200 women, on Wednes­day at Mbana Okuzu Com­munity of Oba in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, staged a peaceful demon­stration against alleged land grabbers in the area.

The women, most of them in their 50s, insisted that no portion of the community’s land must be touched again by suspected grabbers who they alleged included their community leader.

The women leader of the entire Oba Community, home branch, who was the spokesperson for the protest­ing rural women, Lolo Ngozi Ibeto, said there were almost no more parcels of land left unsold at Mbana Okuzu, no thanks to one of their community leaders who the women accused of being the mastermind of the land deal in the area.         

Lolo Ibeto said since five years the ugly trend started, she had not ceased to cry out along with other women and men in the community who were only beaten up in effrontery to dare the land grabbers.

“One of the community leaders and his cohorts has sold all our lands and there is imminent famine in our community because we no longer have farmlands to cultivate as people known for massive food produc­tion
