Many non Progressive elements always think we adore Awolowo for political reasons. Far from Facts. He, it was, who brought FREE EDUCATION to Nigeria via SW. It was him that brought the First Television Station to Africa. He brought Free Health Services, He gave the children of the poor education, he turned farmers to wealthy people. He built the first tallest building in Nigeria called Cocoa House, he injected energy into Odua Investment..... Even his haters benefitted directly from his politics. He was a rare individual....

Chief Awolowo understood the differences in Nigeria but priotize the unity of Nigeria, no wonder he stood with Nigeria at critical time when if he did otherwise, this great nation would have been history.... Thank you Chief Awolowo for believing in the unity of Nigeria, no wonder the name of his party in the second republic was UNITY PARTY OF NIGERIA.... He believed in the unity and coming together of all Progressives in all zones and parties. He knew that good people were scattered just like bad people too, he believed that Nigeria's greatness is not in her breaking up but in the coming together of all Progressives.... He predicted this during his last birthday that "A time will come when good people from all parties will come together and save Nigeria".... He also believed that for this to come to pass Yoruba have a big role to play being people with deepest progressive roots, therefore, he called upon them to unite and love one another. He said NOONE should cry for him, instead love yourselves and stop politics of bitterness.

Ibrahim Babangida through a speech delivered by Sani Abacha at Awo's funeral said "Since 1956, the politics of Nigeria has been about two issues which are Whether you're for Chief Awolowo or You're against him".... Emeka Ojukwu described him as "the best President that never was...".... Those who know lion know he doesn't need a knife to cut a Buffalo into pieces!!!! Awo na una PAPA!

WHEN a foundation is laid upon Truth, the legacy will be everlasting!!! Ebenezer Obey said and I quote "When Awolowo was alive, he stood on the Truth, they insulted him in his presence, they insulted him in his absence, yet he stood on the truth"....

A o ni gbagbe re titi, A o ni gbagbe re titi, OBAFEMI AWOLOWO.... Eweso Ijebu, gbogbo Omo Alaare mo nki yin, e ku ara Fera ku, gbogbo Omo Oduduwa mo ma nki yin, ALL PROGRESSIVES IN NIGERIA, mo nki yin o..... May BABA Obafemi Jeremiah Awolowo's soul continue to rest in peace..

But I did that for the Ibos, and when the war was over, I saw to it that the African Continental Bank, ACB, got three and a half million pounds to start with. This was distributed immediately and I gave another sum of money. The attitude of the experts, officials at the time of the ACB was that ACB should be closed down, and I held the view you couldn’t close the ACB down because that is the bank that gives finance to the Ibo traders, and if you close it down they’ll find it difficult to revive or to survive. So it was given.

I did the same thing for the Cooperative Bank of Eastern Nigeria, to rehabilitate all these places, and I saw to it as commissioner for finance that no obstacle was placed in the way of the ministry of economic planning in planning for rehabilitation of the war affected areas.

He was really a legend in the South West
His free Education saw many of Yorubas becoming elites and professors. Unlike today that many of them have taken to thuggery and all kind of illicit characters.
South West Leaders need to uphold the legacy of this man.

Down South East he is hated because of some of his role during the Biafran war.

Let me stop here and allow the dead to continue Resting in peace

"Chief Awolowo understood the differences in Nigeria but prioritize the unity of Nigeria, no wonder he stood with Nigeria at critical time when if he did otherwise, this great nation would have been history.... Thank you Chief Awolowo for believing in the unity of Nigeria"

What is the morbid fascination with Nigerian UNITY? Why is that we never hear of Liberian UNITY, Ghanaian UNITY, Sierre Leone UNITY or Togo UNITY? Only the empty phrase called NIgerian UNITY. You should interrogate deeply the true meaning of Nigerian UNITY? Is the current Nigerian UNITY the type and substance of Nigerian UNITY Awolowo fought for? If Awolowo were to come back to live, would he sincerely declare that the current Nigerian UNITY is the unity he fought for?

Awolowo did so much for the South West like his counterparts in Northern and Eastern Nigerian. The only time Awolowo served politically at the national level was as Federal Commissioner of Finance and Vice Chairman o Federal Executive Council and more importantly, defacto President under Gowon's military dictatorship and Nigeria-Biafra War. On the face of it, he fought for Nigerian UNITY but remove all the encomiums and patroitism-tinged narrative, he strange decision to align with the north, his erstwhile political enemies, was driven by political opportunism for himself and his Yoruba ethnic group - not by justice, equity and fairness.

(Un)fortunately, man proposes but God disposes. He died, according to Ojukwu, the best president Nigeria never had. His Yoruba ethnic group are worse, economically and politically, in today's One Nigeria than what they were during his reign
