• Says It is not in the interest of the Region

An immediate past Member of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Otobong Ndem has cautioned against unwarranted media assaults targeted at smearing the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

Speaking with newsmen in Uyo, Hon. Ndem lauded the Honourable Minister for his vision in rebuilding a decayed Niger Delta region in a sustainable and proactive manner.

Speaking further, Hon. Ndem insisted that it will be in the best interest of the Indigenes of Niger Delta to key into the opportunity of having an uncommon leader like Sen. Akpabio as the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs. "Instead of this proxy media attacks, a leader like Senator Akpabio who successfully transformed Akwa Ibom from a pedestrian state to a centre of destination should be supported by our leaders to effectively transform the Niger Delta which is already on course".

Harping on unity, Hon. Ndem called on leaders from the region to speak with one voice. "Our leaders should borrow a leaf from leaders of other zones to promote stability rather than stocking tension for pecuniary gains. The leaders of the region should resolve their issues internally".

Commenting on the ongoing forensic audit of the NDDC ordered by President Muhummadu Buhari which he described as the right way of getting things done in the interest of the Niger Delta, he admonished those fighting Senator Akpabio to be guided by the overriding interest of the Niger Deltans.

"It is true that many people will not agree with the new order of doing things as championed by the Honourable Minister but I'm happy that President Buhari understands that the ongoing media war is politically sponsored by leaders who are supposed to work as a family in the interest of the zone. President Buhari is determined to overhaul the system and those fighting back must be properly guided. The new approach will not favour the interest of a select few but the larger interest of Niger Delta people", he added.

While declaring his unalloyed loyalty and solidarity, Hon. Ndem urged the people of the region to rise up and support Senator Akpabio in creating a new path for the development of the Niger Delta.

But unfortunately the only thing people are interested in as far the region is concerned is how to share the money
