What is Suya
It is a specially prepared spicy meat kebab that is popular among Hausa speaking people of Nigeria and other West African countries.
However, the consumption of Suya has gone beyond the border of just the Hausa people. This delicacy has become a regular snacking in restaurants and bars across cites in Nigeria.
Although, sellers of this delicacy who are called Mai-Suya are mainly northern Hausa speaking people.
Suya is generally made from carefully skewered beef, ram, or chicken meats. The animal offals such as kidney, liver, and tripe are also used.
The meat is spiced with various herbs and spices such as powdered ginger, powdered pepper, powdered peanut, salt, vegetable oil, and other flavorings.


And the spiced meat is grilled or barbecued over open heat. is grilled meat is served with extra powdered pepper mixture, fresh vegetables such as onion, cabbage, and Cucumber.

Dangers of Easting Suya
There are numerous dangers and health problem that is associated with the consumption  If this special delicacy.

1. Poor hygiene during Preparation.
A major problem associated with Suya is poor hygiene during preparation. Must sellers of the delicacy throw caution to the air on how the meat is handled



The environment is left unkept, with flies perching on the open meats. Sometimes the utensils, use in processing the meat are left un-cleaned

2. Poorly cooked meat.
At times the meat is poorly cooked. And this may cause harm to people who consumed them.

4. Transmission of blood-related diseases like Hepatitis B:

Suya sellers might accidentally cut themselves during the preparation of the meat or selling, and blood from such cut can easily transmit blood-related diseases to the meat

5. Use of Old Newspapers or nylons to pack suya:
Suya is mostly wrapped with Old newspapers or nylons. One cannot ascertain where these wrapping papers are gotten from.
 
Some sellers of suya buy these old papers and magazines from suppliers who might have source the papers from dumpsites or other unclean places.
Here are some dangers associated with consuming this delicacy. However, these do not mean all suya sellers are unclean and do not give concern to hygiene.
Sellers, Restaurants, and hotels are becoming very cautious about hygiene and are making sure this delicacy can be enjoyed in the cleanest and hygienic way.
