As every state in Nigeria differs in their slogans, so also there are those very unique features that distinguished these states from one another. Cost of living is one of such major features that distinguished one state of the federation from the other. While others lead in high cost of living with nothing else positive to show for, others lead in other positive feature, and a bearable cost of living that isn’t threatening the existence of their people.
Lagos state for instance, despite being known as the commercial nerve centre of the country with influx of people daily in search of a better living condition as one of the factor that favours immigration of people into her is not leading in high cost of living as it should, unlike her Akwa Ibom State counterpart which is known only for crude oil production with no any other factor that favours immigration like industries and other opportunities, but tops in the ranking as the state in Nigeria with the highest cost of living. We carried out our research in Lagos, Abuja, Anambra, Kogi, Rivers, Enugu, Borno, Adamawa, Kaduna and six other states respectively, and in our findings at the end of the day, we realized that you can still have a prettily not too bad food for as little as N200 or less in those states, but not so in the oil rich state of Akwa Ibom state, as you would need N300 naira minimum to be able to eat the least plate of food in any canteen. Same also with some food stuffs in the markets of those states, the rates and quantity in those states if far lesser and much than that of Akwa Ibom, that one is left wondering what they gain in such greed!
