Former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Alfa Belgore, emerges as ACN governorship candidate in Kwara State[/size]

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr. Dele Belgore, on Wednesday emerged the governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria in Kwara State.

The ACN primaries also saw the emergence of the party's candidates for the Senate and the House of Representatives slots in the state.

The ACN election which took place at the party's secretariat in Sango, Ilorin, was conducted by Prof Funmilayo Adekanye, leader of the electoral panel, under the watch of representatives of the Independent Electoral Commission in the state.

Belgore won amidst cheers from his supporters.

In his acceptance speech, Belgore promised to provide free education, strengthen village schools, engage unemployed graduates and revive the scholarship system

in the state.

"An ACN government led by me will inspire our people by demonstrating to them that at last they have a government that is ready, capable and willing to work for them. We will bring government closer to the people by holding regular town hall meetings and ensuring effective local government administration," he said.

However, interventions the former Inspector General of Police, Sunday Adewusi to whom, Bayo Alao once served as Personal Assistant had his dismissal reduced to compulsory retirement.

The letter for the compulsory retirement was signed by J.A Obe (mni) who was the Secretary of the Nigerian Police Service Council. The letter with reference number PSA/s/88/V.3/149 which was dated September 7th 1995 stated inter alia:

"In view of the serious act of misconduct against you from which you have not exonerated yourself, the Head of State and Commander-In- Chief of the Armed Forces, after due consultation and deliberation, and as the appropriate authority in this regard, and in accordance with the provisions of the public officers (Special Provision) Decree No. 17 of 1984 has decided to compulsorily retire you in public interest".
