This is one of the best news so far in the face of the coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria.

The news is better than the military killing of the young man in Jos

It's better than the ravenous killings by herdsmen in Kaduna

Better than the government claiming it spends more than 600 million feeding school children in their home.

The news is better than reviving Ajaokuta Steel Company just to be looted again.

This is really a great news

It is the kind of news you read with a bowl on nkwobi and very cold bottle of Star Lager Beer

Though, I don't drink, but I want to sha support this your post in my own capacity grin

Nice.
Companies who had to lay off staff shouldn't be blamed either. This virus had a great effect and toll on almost everywhere and everyone.

Why not apply the salary deduction by some little percentage instead of throwing them to the labour market where getting a new job is not guaranteed...

This is not surprising. Sugar sales even increased this period.

I do not see any condition under which the sugar industry will be affected adversely, except it's government regulations.

Truthfully, you would not blame them. Remember that money to be paid to staff comes when staff work. Now the economy is not moving, work cannot take place for anyone to be paid. It just needs understanding. If they cut salaries, where will the money to pay them come from when things, people or even places to work for or get contract are shut down.

You understand?

According to Joseph Umolu, the company’s director, Corporate and Legal Services, Sunti had just concluded its crushing season, harvesting 146,200 tons of sugar cane and producing 15,860 tons of sugar. He further stated that the company also produced 9,640 tons of molasses and 11,600 MWh of electricity generated using bagasse (sugar cane fibre) as fuel. The company is now entering its cultivation season and plans to maintain high levels of employment to ensure a seamless process.

Not sure the bolded is right

The above narrative is very realistic. What is stated is 116000 megawatts-hour. I.e a total of 11600 MW is generated in 24 hours. So the actual power available for utilization at a time is about 483 MW (11600/24), part of which may be distributed/sold to the surrounding communities.
