Many are too quick to claim Ilorin as a Fulani city.

It baffles me when people boldly say Ilorin is a Fulani city, I wonder if people do travel to Ilorin or they did but just trying to conceal the truth.

Ilorin is a city predominantly occupied by the Yorubas, In fact they're even protecting the Yoruba culture than some of the SW States, they're no different from the Oyo people. The fact that they've some Fulani among them or a Fulani ruling them doesn't mean the Fulani own the city.

You can never be in Ilorin city and hear people speak Fulani except in their core midst, even the Fulanis there have been yorubalized, they display themselves as Yoruba. they're minorities there.

And why is a Fulani ruling Ilorin?

Ilorin was formerly under the control of ancient Oyo empire, Afonja who was a very powerful man had a fight with the then Alaafin of Oyo (king of Oyo), but one thing or the other haopend that he had to run from Oyo to settle in Ilorin. when he got to Ilorin, he met Alimi, Alimi was a Fulani man and a pious Islamic preacher.

When Alimi was in Ilorin, the Ilorin people liked him because he was so good to them, he preached something unfamiliar that sounds great, he settled dispute between couples and made everywhere peaceful and relating them to the teaching of Islam.

The Ilorin people decided to pay him gratitude for what he has done for them by requesting that he become their ruler but he declined. After so much persistence, he accepted that his son should become the ruler instead of him.

So the people of Ilorin willingly gave him as a sign of gratitude, it's a known tradition of the Yorubas to pay their benefactor a big gift for anything they do, they pay them back better, they didn't forcefully have it, that's why they can't just demand it back today cos they knew they were the one that gave it to them willingly.

So the fact that they rule doesn't mean they own it, and if you doubt, you can travel to Ilorin and see for yourself. before you can find someone that speak Fulani, you would've already find one thousand Yoruba speakers

Ipinle Kwara belongs to Yorubas.. the Fulanis only came there as settlers.

The problem is that some of the elites in Kwara prefer to identify with Hausa/Fulanis for political reasons. A good example is the Sarakis, they have Yoruba names like Olusola, Bukola, Toyin etc. but still prefer to Identify with North for obvious reasons.
The people of Kwara know their history and when the time is ripe, they'll trace their roots.

Fulanis have a clever way which involves adopting the language of their host while maintaining their feudalism over them. The Hausa Fulanis and Yoruba Fulanis are Fulanis same as Adamawa Fulanis.

This doesn't even call for an arguement. For those who are from kwara state or have been to kwara before will know kwara is a Yoruba state

Afonja didn't meet Alimi in Ilorin.

Afonja has always been staying in Ilorin because he wasn't permitted to stay in Oyo with the Alaafin.
Afonja was the grandson of Laderin one of the earliest settlers of Ilorin.

It was after Afonjas murder that Alimis son who was an Imam stylishly turned himself to royalty.

The title bestowed on Alimi by the Ilorin Muslim community was Imam and not kingship.

What's the significance of the emir of Ilorin? Somebody that the governor can remove in 10 minute.

Those who are saying Ilorin is Fulani, ask them to tell you the meaning of the name Ilorin, how it originate, is it Fulani name or Yoruba name?

There is nothing like Yoruba Fulanis. Those who are Yorubas in Ilorin are well aware of their ethnic ancestry while those who are Fulanis are also aware of their ancestry. There is no ambiguity anywhere except in the minds of mischievous Igbos like you.

According to Hausa history, Ilorin (Oyo) is one of the 7 banza (bastards) sons.

Both Oyo and Ilorin are included in the ancient Hausa map.

Yorubas should stop deceiving themselves. They are Hausa bastards according to Hausa history.

See some screenshots I saw in some threads some fews back. They can also check Wikipedia

Nonsense write up. Would the Fulanis in Katsina allow a Yoruba to rule over them?
